I'd like to do some CMYK separations and I have a couple of questions...Are the ICC color profiles already loaded into ASP or should I download a set from Adobe? Can I add a border with pin registration crosses with ASP or will I need to go to another app to do that? Thanks in advance for your help!
Best--Jim

Re: CMYK color separations
AS does not support CMYK profiles as far as I know.
Pin registration could potentially be implemented via zFrame, but I am not really sure if it can place a frame within the image
cheers

Re: CMYK color separations
CMYK is evil. well, not really, but it is a totally different beast than RGB. and unless you have been given a really clear workflow from your printshop - including profiles, software requirements and specific settings for exactly that software version - then just stay away from it. let the printshop handle it. they will mess the results up, but at least it will be their fault and not yours. they are used to printing stuff twice and it will be not on your bill. why printshops still mess up is one of those mysteries btw.
just my 2cts.
ASP lacks all the fundamental internals for anything CMYK, the color engine is not set up for it, the scaling etc is not totally precise in terms of printing and so on. output the best RGB you can, including the colorprofile, and then work from there in software that was actually designed to handle CMYK.

Re: CMYK color separations
Thanks much for the responses. I'm interested in color separations so that I can do some 'alternative' printing, i.e. gum bichromate primarily and for this messing about, I'd rather fumble around with an inkjet printer and acetate sheets than hand large quantities of greenbacks to a jobber. I'm also looking into using RGB separations. The color doesn't need to be perfect as the pigment media will be watercolor or possibly acrylic inks. Looking forward to wasting a bunch of paper.
Re: CMYK color separations
ah, i see. =)
yes, then you want to do the experimenting yourself.
still.. make the best RGB conversion you can do and use that as a fixed base for the cmyk-separations. if you want to get predictable results with later images dont start colour-corrections in cmyk space. change the separation curves, settings of the conversion, create color-profiles, etc. but nothing after that. it seems cumbersome first but you get an incredible amount of predictability out of that. every printshop will tell you they would of course muck around in cmky-space. but that is because they are not photographers and usually dont have a clue about rgb. and no sane person would ever start editing the interim file they send to their inkjet printer.
cmyk is a device-dependant fixed print-space. use it as such.

Will Corel PSP ever support working directy in CMYK colour s
I have been 'grown up' with PSP from version 1.0 and now working with 64bit version of PSP X7. Still my favourite photo editing app.
I have regularly designed logo's and other stuffs with PSP, however, the main handicap remains the possibility for working directly in CMYK Colour space. Almost all Adobe applications offer the ability to work directly in CMYK colour space to enable a better workflow with pro-printing industry. I am regurarly forced to do design work by using Adobe.
My question remains: will Corel PSP ever support directly working in CMYK colour space???
Tnx.

I suggest asking that in a PSP and not an ASP forum.Clara wrote:My question remains: will Corel PSP ever support directly working in CMYK colour space???
