Videostudio X4 - import HD from Sony
I need help getting recorded videos from my Sony HDI camcorder into Video Studio X4 I have downloaded the contents to Play memories the Sony software but can't locate it from the Corel programme, I then tried accessing the videos direct from X4 with the camera connected via USB I am sure the answer is simple but at this time the solution escapes me

Can you locate your files in Windows Explorer / My Computer. ? what is their extension. ?
If yes what happens if you Right click over the timeline in VideoStudio and choose "Insert Video" - can you not then browse to the folder and select your files ?
When you camera was connected to the PC via USB did you try right click on the timeline choosing "Insert Video" and browsing to the new drive (which is your camera) showing in windows explorer. but if you do do that you will also need to move the files to your hard drive to be able to use them without the camera connected.
Could you be more specific about what you actually do and how Videostudio responds - ie what error messages etc.

Re: Videostudio X4 - import HD from Sony
I have managed to transfer the content of my camcorder into the timeline in VS X4 what I would really like is to get the content into the library so I can choose the content for the timeline, at the moment it is just one long video, how do I do this?

Re: Videostudio X4 - import HD from Sony
Hi
Several ways to do that.
1 / right click the library and choose Insert Media Files
2 / select the open folder top left of library again to Insert Media Files
Browse the hard drive for your files.
3 / drag the clips from the timeline to the library.
You may be best to create your own library page, simply clock the “+”Add” symbol, top left
You can also view the timelines in story board view, this will show each clip as a thumbnail. Two icons top of timelines, far left
Hope this helps

Re: Videostudio X4 - import HD from Sony
Just for the sake of completeness, can you tell us the exact model of your Sony camcorder please? I got a little worried when you said that what appears in your timeline is one long video. What that probably means is that all your separate videos are there on the timeline but just appear to be joined together. If so, then if you look along the timeline, you should be vertical lines and a little loudspeaker icon indicating where a new clip begins. Again, if this is the case, you can drag and drop each clip into the library. The storyboard view suggested by Trevor would make this easier.
However, it is also possible that your camera could be a HDV model i.e. using a mini DV tape, though you would need to use Firewire (Sony calls it i-Link) to capture that correctly, and break it into individual scenes.

Re: Videostudio X4 - import HD from Sony
Thanks for the reply sorry for the delay in relying, I have sorted out the problem with transferring HD videos but now have another problem previously I have another Sony Camcorder with mini tapes when I bought the HDR-SR12 I gave the old one to my Son but dumped all the tapes onto a WD 500gb external drive but retained the tapes just in case, well I now want to transfer and edit them in X4 I have created libraries for each tape from 1-48 some of scenes can be imported into the libraries easily but some will not and I get the dreaded "X4 is not responding " I cannot think why this is have you any suggestions? they are in avi format

Re: Videostudio X4 - import HD from Sony
How exactly are you trying to "import" them? If you are "importing" direct from the tapes (I assume in the camcorder), is it connected via Firewire/iLink? And are you using the Capture function, which should recognise the connected DV/HDV camcorder?some of scenes can be imported into the libraries easily but some will not
Or are you importing from the external hard disk where you "dumped all the tapes"? If so, then how did you "dump" the tapes in the first place? And exactly how are you going about transferring them into X4?

Re: Videostudio X4 - import HD from Sony
I am importing the media direct from the external HD by right clicking in the library section of the screen, as I said I have created separate folders (libraries) for each of the copied tapes I then select a number of clips to import, I have tried selecting the whole of the clips but found that this takes ages and I could not tell how things were going so I decided to select less clips, say 12 and this worked for about 24-36 of the clips but then after that rough amount it stopped with the message that video studio was not responding, now this could be that the particular clip or clips are corrupted, I said I still have the original tapes but nothing to play them on unless I can get hold of a mini tape player or get the camera back from my Son who lives 450 miles away
