New Year for AfterShot Pro...
Hello Everyone,
Please let me start off by wishing all of you a very Happy New Year! 2014 promises to be an exciting year for Corel AfterShot Pro. As you know, the team has been working version 2.0 and I have a few updates for you on this front. First, there has been some solid progress made in the past couple of months of development. As before, I can't go into all of the details of the release, but I can share that the team made some progress in the areas of performance, the new noise reduction technology, bug fixes, and new features (such as local contrast previously mentioned). We're very excited by the results of the efforts the team has made so far and look forward to further updates.
The second bit of news I wish to share, is that as of December 1st, 2013, Corel Photo & Video products moved to another part of the company while I have remained in Corel's Graphics and Productivity division. As such, I have joined the ranks of AfterShot Pro users eagerly awaiting the next release! AfterShot Pro, PaintShop Pro, and Corel's Video products are now siblings to Pinnacle and Roxio products. The great news is that Joseph Lin will continue in his Product Management role for AfterShot Pro as well as some other members of the team. I did have the opportunity to discuss AfterShot Pro with the new Executive team and to my delight, there was a lot of excitement around AfterShot Pro with plans for increased investment. Recently, the facebook page has also seen some commitment from the new team to communicate more regularly with the community. I strongly encourage you to visit the page to get the latest news. I am also passing along the names of the people who requested to be in the Beta Program. For anyone else interested, hang tight as recruiting will happen back in this forum when the team is ready.
In signing off, I would like to thank everyone who welcomed me here - it is very much appreciated. I would also like to thank those of you who took me up on my offer to speak live over the phone. We had many great exchanges and I got to meet some genuinely amazing people - something that I am extremely grateful for. I'm still around, so please don't ever hesitate to give me a call to say hello!
Warm Regards,
Rick

Rick, it's been nice talking to you.
and a nice and warm Welcome! to Joseph Lin.
although, i hope you like lemonade of the sour-bitter kind, because that is all i have currently to serve. all outta sugar and cherries.
all this changeoverchange style of business is the reason why i am not really hopeful for the future of Aftershot. Bibble became what it is because of a very dedicated, very close team. continuity over years despite all the changes and quickpaced life of software development.
in an coorperation.. every year the faces and brains change, meaning the next head of aftershot will waste another quarter just to get with basic grips of his new position, learning about the coworkers, the team, the social interactions. then another quarter grasping the basics behind the product. maybe a chat with the community here or there. and all the while he has to take actual decisions, show the ladder up that something is happening. been there, seen it too often. once upon a time i worked in a stilllife studio that had longer relationships with some companies than with the people working there. we had to explain to our customers what their job would have to be. seriously.
anyway. trying to get a coherent design and a tool that - like up to now - actual professional photographers are able to use will be hard, even after the problem with the not-happening camera updates might be solved. i beg you to prove me wrong, although the current track record of the recent two (and-a-half) years is not in the favour of the Corel. in May it will be my 10th anniversary with Bibble/Aftershot.

So far, Corel just confirms any negative stereotypes one can think of...

Re: New Year for AfterShot Pro...
I hope Mr. Lin will visit this forums, too.
There are actually some people out there who don't care about facebook and similar sites...
Still, i have to concur with grubernd, the most exciting features are useless if your camera isn't supported...

Hello grubernd,
may I bring a little correction in your proccess.
Logically, the command lines should be in the following order:
$ sudo make devteam
then: $ sudo make birthdaypresent
$ sudo asp-got updated
$ sudo apt-get install corelsreputation
Good luck,
may I bring a little correction in your proccess.

Re: New Year for AfterShot Pro...
Hi Everyone,
Joseph is not new to the team and has been visiting this forum for quite some time. In fact, Joseph compiled all of your suggestions into one master list and has been using it along with our UX Designer Joey and our Dev Manager Shawn in planning the next couple of releases. As for Photo & Video moving to another part of the company, it's a very positive move for the products. While I will remain in the Graphics division, the rest of the team has moved with AfterShot Pro. And by move, I mean on an org chart. The same people are sitting in the same seats, so I apologize if it sounded like things were changing in any other way. As I said, I've been informed about plans to increase investment in AfterShot Pro, and moving all of our Digital Media applications under one umbrella just makes a lot of sense. As always, I love hearing any kind of feedback live, so feel free to give me a ring! It would be my pleasure to listen, learn, and share your thoughts with the rest of the team.

Re: New Year for AfterShot Pro...
At least it's good to know things are moving. Hope to read more news soon.
Happy new year!
Happy new year!
Re: New Year for AfterShot Pro...
That seems a little naive. Moving a product to a different unit almost inevitably causes delay. New PM, possible new developers. Let's hope that the new release of AfterShot (if it ever comes) will support new cameras rather than burning DVDs and playing videos.At least it's good to know things are moving. Hope to read more news soon.
Happy new year!

Maybe you should just read what Mr. Champagne wrote, before calling others naive:mick232 wrote:That seems a little naive. Moving a product to a different unit almost inevitably causes delay. A happy new year to you and to the ASP team, Rick!
... and thanks for the info!
(I especially liked the "Joseph compiled all of your suggestions into one master list [...] planning the next couple of releases", btw.
)
Godspeed to the ASP team, in reaching their goal(s)!
(... and to keep us from having to look for alternatives to ASP; if not using Linux, I would have found something by now.)
