PhotoImpact 8 and Gif Animator 5

Post by BrockL »

Just a quick question for anyone in the know, but is Ulead GIF Animator 5 a program that's included with a PhotoImpact 8 SE cd?

Going off the reviews found on the net, it appears as if it is, but I just wanted to make sure before I went ahead and make a purchase.

Thanks to anyone who can help me on the matter.

You need to be very careful here - PhotoImpact 8 is an extremely old programme - the current version is X3 (13) so there is no guarantee that version 8 will run on any of the current Windows platforms.

Also the SE stands for Special Edition - these additions were often 'tweaked' and cut down and given away free to promote some product or other - maybe even the GIF animator - I do not know though if that is the case - I can't recall version 8 it's so long ago.

Thank you, BrianCee.

I appreciate the info you have given me, and I was not aware of PhotoImpact 8 being such a old program, as I honestly know very little of it.

Off the top of your head, would you happen to know of any software more recent, or at the very least, compatible with Vista/7/8 that does have the GIF Animator 5 on it? It's a software I am soo used to, and want to atleast try to extend my use of it.

What happened in my case, was that I had a online purchased version of GIF Animator 5 on my computer, but a few weeks ago had to do a reload on my computer and consequently lost my programs. I installed a 15 day trial version, and attempted to put my license/ID info to fully reinstall it back onto my computer, but would not go thru.

Once the 15 days were up, I decided to try one last time, and suddenly it worked! As GIF Animator began working in it's full capacity. Unfortunately, this didn't last long, and just last night I noticed that GIF Animator is behaving once again like the trial version. But without any sort of 15 day countdown period clock. What gives it away the most, that it's behaving like the trial version, is the loss of not being able to open AVI files in the GIF Animator program...

I'm losing hope, and came to the conclusion that maybe if I purchased a actual CD with GIF Animator on it, my troubles with this issue would be solved.

I am on Vista, BTW.

Thank you for your, or anyone's time reading this.

Hi

At one time Ulead provided Gif-Animator as a free plugin when purchasing Photo Impact as far as I know is part of PI 8.

To the top right in PhotoImpact there is a "Switch" tab. Click on this and Gif Animator will open. hopefully

-----------------------------------------------

Unfortunately they removed that offer and from Photo Impact 12 does not contain Gif-Animator. I have X3 so don’t see this tab either.

They did however provide a free download link, but that was Ulead, don’t think Corel would do that and I don’t have the link, at least I don’t think so but will look?

Hope that helps

Thank you for the information, and thank you for checking as well. I really do appreciate that.

I guess I will go ahead and give it a shot on picking up PI8. Hopefully things will work out ...

You can purchase PhotoImpact X3 at a reasonable price.

As for GIF Animator you can download it from here. There's no need to install it. Have you tried Animation Shop?
