PSP x6 Image Info

Hi all! Having a blast with PSP x6! Got a question for you - I searched and couldn't find an answer here so figured I'd ask a couple of questions where maybe someone knows how to do this.

When you are working on an image that you consider an art form, then you need to enter in the appropriate image information so that if someone copies your image, you can chase them down since it's yours.



So, go to Image > Image Information, or Shift-I, and you can enter the title, artist name, copyright, and comments, as shown in the image above.

Now here are the questions:

1. Is there any way to set up the Artist Name and Copyright information so it automatically fills in that information??? It's a pain in the hoohah when you have hundreds of photos and PSP should automatically fill that in!

2. Under the first entry, Image Title - why can't PSP take the file name and post it as Image Title? Again, would make it much easier if it filled in that info, so you don't spend hours typing in all of this stuff.

The combined question is - how do you get PSP x6 to fill in Image Information?????

I hope you understand the reason for this question and I hope someone knows how!

X4 doesn't work like I would expect, but maybe X6 has been repaired. Have you tried, in Manage tab, selecting multiple (test with 3 perhaps) thumbnails and entering the info in the IPTC tab of the Info palette?

I'm no expert in this stuff but here is what I just tried that seems to work.

- In Edit, select record script.
- For any image select the Current image information/creator information.
- Enter the information that is the same for all the images you want to process.
- Save the script. You can edit it to change or correct information.
- Go to Manage and select a number of the images in which you want to modify the information.
- Select File/Batch process.
- In the batch process window deselect "silent mode" and make sure the destination is correct.
- Run the batch. Since it is not in silent mode as each file is processed the information file information window will pop up. At this point the constant data has been filled in but this is the opportunity to enter the Image title.
- Hit enter and the next image window pops up.

The script MarkZ suggested can even be edited to use the current image's Title as the Image Title in the Image Information. Very easily. If that's what you wanted to do.

Mark that works great! Levi, I can't figure out how to do it. When I ran the recording for naming the file, it saves the first images name only, and then all become the same name. That doesn't work. Is there some way you recorded the settings for that?

EDIT - FYI I just did the batch process and dayum that worked! Now if I can figure out the image name portion, then it would be grand. YOU GUYS ARE GREAT!!!

Click on the "Edit Script" button (looks like an unrolled scroll or parchment of paper) It will bring up the script editor. You will see the "Text Editor" button on the bottom of the dialog.

Click that and it will open in Notepad.

You see the part that says " 'Title': u'JellyFish',"

You will replace "u'JellyFish'" With App.TargetDocument.Title

So it'll look like this

Of course this will include the extension. So JellyFish.jpg gets the name title "Jellyfish.jpg"

If you want the extension removed, it takes a little more editing.

I do a lot of scripts and text editing to customize, but this script is much larger than I thought. However, all I did was add in the line from your suggestion, App.TargetDocument.Title, and THAT WORKED PERFECTLY!!!!

Again, tried batch process AND THAT WORKED PERFECTLY!

Levi, one more time, I owe you a huge thanks!!! This is so much fun!

EDIT - Wow, let me post a warning here, in the script you showed above, and all scripts, to enter specific information it has to be lined up between u'info'. I made one error - I wanted to add in the location in the Advanced information settings - as in city, state, country. I made a mistake and accidentally put u"North Carolina'. Now notice I entered " instead of ', and OML when I ran it it blasted out, took me about 10 minutes to shut down PSP, open the script on notepad and correct it. All of that being said, make sure you use u' ', and don't use " in there!!! Whew!

Yes, Python, like any language, is very strict on its grammar. What you start with is what you need to end with.

So you can use " if you want, but you have to make sure to end the string with " as well.

So u"North Carolina" and u'North Carolina' are the same thing. The only difference are the opening and closing quotes. THey must match.
