X4, X6 Edit Button In HDR Doesn't Go To Edit In Main

Post by NatParkPhotos »

I've been using PSP 4 Ultimate for a couple years and everything has been fine. IN the last few days when I get to the 3rd screen in the HDR portion of the program and click on "edit" where it usually kicks the image over to the main portion of the program to edit it, it no longer works so my only option is "save and close".

I searched all through these forums to try to find something but could not.

I uninstalled X4 Ultimate and reinstalled then installed SP 2 and SP3 That did not work.

I downloaded the X6 trial and had the same problem with that.

I ran Malware Bytes and removed anything it found.

I recently installed Microsoft ICE (Panoramic stitching software) and removed that in case there was some conflict.

In a nutshell, I go through the HDR module, get to the third screen where the buttons at the bottom are "edit", "save and close", and "Back". I can "save and close" and go "Back" but when I click on 'edit', it brings the main screen with the "Manage", "Adjust" and "Edit" tabs at the top into focus as though it is communicating with and trying to put the image in that part of the program but does not spit the image into that screen.

Are there any settings that need to be adjusted so the edit button does what it used to do or does anyone have any suggestions for some way to bring it back to the original functionality?

Any help would be much appreciated!

Just to make sure I understand, when you get to this point are you saying your image disappears and is not there in the Edit tab available for further editing? I just tried HDR in X6 and when I clicked on Edit it put my image in the Edit tab workspace.

The image does not disappear, it just stays in the HDR module but will not transfer over to the main portion of the program when I clicked edit.

I tried all kinds of different things and figured out what the problem was. The images were on a CF memory chip that was nearly full. I was opening the three images for the HDR photo directly from the memory chip. It seems that PSP must try to use memory from the disk or chip that the source images are located on when doing its magic to transfer the blended image over to the main portion of the program to edit when the edit button in HDR mode is clicked. I would expect it to use the computers 8 GIG of RAM or free space on the computer hard drive but it does not seem like it uses either of those in this case.

I tried loading a smaller image from the chip by itself into the HDR module, going through the steps to the last screen and then clicking on edit and that did successfully transfer over to the main part of the program.

The bottom line is if you are using the HDR module in Paint Shop Pro and want to be able to send the HDR blend over to the main module using the "edit" button in the HDR module, load the images from a hard drive or memory chip that is not very close to being full. IN this case it was a 32 GIG CF chip with about 75 megs of space left on it.
