Re: uvs file backup
Some of the files are in my working folder and other folders on my media hard drive, nothing to do with installation as far as I can see.

Hi Kenneth
When you say upgrade are you referring to your operating system?
Windows XP to Windows 7
Are you just wanting to back-up your projects along with all clips used within the projects.
Your best option is to create a Smart Package of each project, give each a unique name. All files used will be saved to the same folder.
You should be able to designate a folder on the external drive, moving all in one go.
Do that for each project. The project files VSP’s are also saved so you can easily open the project, may require one re-link.
Happy New Year Ken

Re: uvs file backup
all captured videos and 'snapshots' are given a name which starts uvs#####. - are these the files you mean ? - they are your media files and will be .avi or .bmp or .jpg etc. they are all files which you created and they should transfer easily.
A search of my computer could not find any files with the extension .uvs despite having 4 versions of VideoStudio, Photoimpact and MovieFactory installed - can you give us the name of any one of these files.

Re: uvs file backup
I suspect you are using the auto back up or features supplied by WD for backing up your files. These are often designed for certain types of files.
Can you just drag and drop the ones it won't deal with?

Re: uvs file backup
Sorry if I have caused confusion, one of the files was named uvs130815-004.avi, when the auto back up prog told me about the files not backed up it did not mention .avi, which of course with hindsight they were. This slipped my memory at the time of posting. But, as usual, with the help of this forum I have been put in the picture and will pursue the advice and take on board the info given.Thank you and a happy new year to you all.................Ken

Re: uvs file backup
When I said upgrade I should have said rebuild, I am changing to Windows 7 Pro and all the components of the pc are going to be renewed. That is why I am backing everything up now
