I have searched on this but have been unable to find what I would like to know... I know I have somewhere seen a list of the audio formats compatible with VS. Can anyone point me towards it?
I have been trying to upgrade my audio quality for use on wildlife videos and have recently purchased a Sennheiser MKE600 shotgun mic and a Zoom H6 digital recorder. Both are reasonably high quality instruments. The H6 can record up to six channels of audio from a variety of sources, in my case all microphones. With what I presently have, I can record stereo into two of the channels with one of two mic attachments that came with the recorder. And I can record a third channel with the Sennheiser mic using an XLR cable. I will also add a Rode Steroe Video mic to it when I get the proper adaptors. The H6 can record in a number of MPG and WAV formats. As space is not an issue with the 64GB SD card I am using, I prefer to use a WAV format. The H6 can record in the follow WAV formats (I confess I do not know what this means): 96kHz/24 bit, 96kHz/16bit, 48kHz/24bit, 44.1kHz/24bit, 46kHz/16bit and 41.kHz/16 bit. I have tried most of these and the results are all good but the best I have been able to import into VS X5 Pro and use in a project so far is WAV 48kHz/16bit. I can import some of the higher quality WAV formats into an audio track and play the clip, but when I try to play the whole project, VS crashes. And in some cases, the stereo track from the H6 mics will work where the mono track from the Sennheiser mic will not though I have yet to narrow that down. The WAV 48/16 works for everything. I am happy with the quality of the WAV 48/16 files. Those from the Sennheiser using the XLR cable are really quite good and so much better for my purposes than the mics that are built In to my Sony VG-20 camera. But since even higher quality WAV formats are available with the H6, I am wondering if there is a way to use them with VS X5.
Thank you for any advice.
