Post by OGUL »

Hi to all,

"DSLR
Corel VideoStudio Pro captures videos and photos taken with your DSLR in real time, maximizing the full power of your camera’s sensor and lens.
To capture videos and photos from a DSLR
1 Connect your DSLR to your computer and turn on the device.
2 Select your device from the Source drop-down list.
3 Specify a folder location for your saved files by clicking the
Capture Folder button .
4 Click Capture Video to start recording. Click Stop Capture or press
[Esc] to stop capturing.
5 To capture a photo while the DSLR is connected to the computer,
click Take a snapshot.
Digital Video (DV)
To capture Digital Video (DV) in its native format, select DV..."

I have a Nikon D5200 and a Vaio with USB 2.0 / USB.3.0 / HDMI port.

Pls inform me if I will be able to record the b/m videos.

a-If I connect with USB 2.0 / 3.0 I will be able to record 1920 x 1080 mov files directly to my computer?
b-If I connect with HDMI I will be able to record 1920 x 1080 uncompressed 4:2:2 videos?

Thanks in advance.

Download the FREE 30 day trial of VideoStudio X6 and install it on your computer - connect your camera and experiment - you *should* be able to capture but your computer and the programmes you have on it are a major variable and the degree of success really can only be determined by you trying it yourself.

The computer specifications will play a big part in it as well, and as you haven't completed the details in your profile, I'd second Brian's suggestion to trial it and see.

ogul,

are you talking about "Live capture", that is, using the DSLR as a webcam or do you simply want to transfer recorded video from the camera to your computer?

Thank you for your reply canuck!
I'm talking about "Live capture"!
I used to make it with my Sony HC9E and Sony Vegas or Adobe on Location via i-link connection without putting any miniDV cassette.

In fact all I just wanted to see if I can obtain 4:2:2 footage?

By the way, skier-hughes, my Vaio configuration is 8 GB Ram, 2.80 Ghz, 450 GB hard disk but now remained only about 310 GB as empty space!

Thanks again.

Ogul,

I haven't tried this with my DSLR, a Canon EOS T4i. However you might be a little shy on space if you're going to capture HD video. There needs to be at least double the amount of free space necessary for a given file size. It takes a lot of PC resources for this. Web cams typically use smaller resolutions and are managed easier. I know what you're after is something in the lines of a "tethered" approach. I only have a very short USB for my camera, so for me trying it would be very difficult. I guess I need to pick up a 16 footer.. :P

If you are not talking about "live capture", then you could also simply put your SD card (or micro SD card in a an SD-sized adapter) into your computer and transfer the video that way. I do that all the time with my GoPro Hero 3 -- though I could also do it via USB or indeed, with the GoPro, via its micro-HDMI outlet.

With 310GB free, ogul has lots of space for storing the captured video.

I have used my Canon T3i as a "web cam" to capture "live video" but only in standard video not HD as I do not have a miniHDMI cable. Will have to get one and do some tests.
