This may have been answered before but I have not been able to find it.
Can anyone tell me if the program "Protexis" installed with PSP X6 version?
Some people I have spoken to regarding purchasing PSP X6 are hesitant because of Corel's use of Protexis. I want to clarify if PSPX6 installed the programs as well.
I have not found Protexis on my machine since installing X6.
Thanks
Kathy

Re: Question regarding Protexis
Without starting PSP X6 first, my Windows 8.1 Task Manager shows "PsiService" "Protexis Licensing V2" is running (with 0.6Mb Memory).

Re: Question regarding Protexis
Hmmmm do you have or did you have any earlier versions of PSP installed in your machine? Particularily X2? Maybe your Aftershot program installed the Protexis.
Also, It is my understanding that once it is installed with a Corel program, it does not uninstall with the Corel program if you choose to uninstall. It has to be removed a completely different way according to the information I have found on the internet.
I recently upgraded my machine. The only version of PSP I have installed is X6. At the moment I do not have any other Corel products installed. None of my running processes show anything to do with Protexis (or PSI )

Re: Question regarding Protexis
Protexis is found under Task Manager > Services and not under Processes. My understanding is that it is installed with all Corel products -- I have Video Studio X6 and X5, PSP X6 (64 bit and 32 bit) and X5, and Motion Studio 3D. I have not opened any of those this morning, but under Services I have both PSI_SVC_2_x64 and PSI_SVC_2 running under Services.
While I don't particularly like the idea of a company who sells me a product installing a checking program like Protexis on the sly, I have over the years grown used to it and have not found it to do anything to impede my use of any of the programs.
I don't know whether or not it remains if you uninstall the main Corel program as I have never looked to see. And I should add that I am not about to uninstall all my Corel programs to see what happens as one of my major complaints about all of them is the length of time it takes to both uninstall and install these programs...

Re: Question regarding Protexis
On my machine there is a PsiService_2.exe file and a .dll file in C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Protexis\License Service. There is also a PsiClient.dll file in C:\Program Files (x86)\Corel\Corel PaintShop Pro X6 as well as in the same location for each version of PSP I have.

Yes I do have PSP X5 installed as well so you may be right.Katey wrote:Hmmmm do you have or did you have any earlier versions of PSP installed in your machine? Particularily X2? Maybe your Aftershot program installed the Protexis.

ASP (formerly Bibble) does not use Protexis.

I meant to say Services...I do not have the Protexis on my machine that I can see. I checked Services via the control panel, task manager and another program I have. I also did a pretty complete search of my machine with a special program.
Also, It is not in any of my Program files either c:\Program (86) or c:\Program
I don't like a company installing any program without my consent either. Having said that, obviously I would have had it in my previous machine as I had at one time or another all of the PSP versions and other Corel programs installed. I don't recall any issues (that were not blamed on PSP lol). Who knows, maybe Protexis contributed to slowing down the PSP program.
Anyway, I was just curious as others have asked me about it and I thought I would do some research to see what I could find out.
Thanks for all your comments
Kathy
