I need to make some changes in a DVD I made a few years ago of home movies and I've misplaced the original mpeg files.
I need to know if X6 will recognize and allow me to import .ts files from my DVD into a project to allow editing. An old version of Video Studio - VS-10 would allow this and open the ts files in my project as the underlying mpeg-2.
I suppose I could use an application like Media Coder to convert the files BUT I can't find a version of Media Coder that will run under Windows 8.
Thanks for your help and Merry Christmas.

Re: Opening DVD "ts" files in a new project
You may need to explain a bit more about what you mean by TS. If your DVD is a standard video DVD, then the only TS which should appear relates to folders and not individual files: Video_TS (which holds all relevant files relating to the DVD) and Audio_TS which these days is invariably empty.
If on the other hand you used the DVD merely as a storage or data disc, the TS files could in fact be mpeg transport stream (TS) files...
I suspect the first situation above, but you might want to confirm...
If correct, then the files you are after are the .vob files, which are in reality your mpeg-2 files with a few tags added and the extension changed from mpg to vob. Normally, you can simply import those files into your computer using Windows and then rename the extension to mpg.
The more "correct" way is to insert the DVD into your DVD drive, and then in X6 right click in the timeline and select "Insert Digital Media". In the dialogue box which appears, you navigate to your DVD drive which should indicate there is a disc in it, with whatever name you assigned to it. Left click the little + sign to its left, and then two sub-folders should appear -- Video_TS and Audio_TS. Click the little box to the left of Video_TS and a red tick should appear. Click OK and a new dialogue box should appear with Video_TS in it. Select it and press Start. After a few seconds a larger box will appear showing all the chapters on the DVD; and after a few more seconds an image from the start of each chapter should appear. You select the chapters you want by ticking the little box in the top left corner of each thumbnail. Then press Start Import and the process should begin, with those files being inserted into the timeline.

Re: Opening DVD "ts" files in a new project
I'm sure that you're correct and what I should have said is I want to open .vob files for editing.
Sounds like your telling me how to open these files in X6 and I'm going to try that later this evening.
I was able to load my old, trusty VS 10 Plus onto my Win 7 based PC and the convert the .vob files to mpeg-2 and via a flash drive imported them in to X6. So long as I get to when I need to be it's a Happy Ending.
Thank You for your reply.

Re: Opening DVD "ts" files in a new project
Just as an update I could not get any of the .vob files to open - I don't know if it's a problem with Win 8 or something else.
I'm having multiple problems with mpeg files on a PC running Win 8.
Good News is I have an acceptable work around with ULead VS 10 Plus.

Did you change the .vob extension to ,mpg? VS will not open files with the .vob extension...
