black and white button

Post by revmatthew »

Hi:
PSPx6.
I clicked on the set to black and white button in the materials pallete. Whoops. Now I can't re-click or click again or do anything to get it to go away and let me do flood fill or other things in colour. Just gives me shades of grey. (and there may be 50 but I didn't count  ) Tried opening and closing, and using different pictures. Nothing. I'm sure there is a little setting to do this, but for the life of me I can't find it. Even if I click on the swatches, they show colour but the background and foreground boxes remain, black and white.
Neophyte that I seem to be in X6 though I've used everything since before 12, I'd appreciate a little advice.
I was trying to fill an area on a jpeg, with a gradient colour of blue. seemed simple. didn't work.
thanks everyone

You might already have tried this. Left click on the Black 'Color' marker on the Foreground box, which in my case (see image) is black. Then move the mouse over the colour spectrum display to the immediate left. The mouse pointer changes to an eyedropper. Select the colour you want, and the Foreground box should reflect that colour i.e. getting rid of the black. Double click in the background box window and the Materials Properties box should appear. Choose the Color tab and select the background colour.

Hi:
I did exactly as you suggested. And that is what I've done in the past.
Changing the colours in the boxes that are on the right of the materials palette happens. Yet there are smaller boxes just to the right of those and they stay grey. Even with the larger boxes showing colour and the swatches visible, when I do a flood fill, it only appears in black and shades of grey. The pop up box showing material properties shoes that there is R:46, G:46, B:46, but the colour in the box is just grey.
When I try using, say the pastel or colouring tools, that comes out coloured just fine.
So, now that I've done that, I actually closed the piece I was working on, and opened another - guess what - the colour and fills etc. work just fine. I have a feeling there is something about that one sketch, not done by me - that is upsetting PaintShop. So, I'll upload the sketch and someone who has time can have a look at the Jpeg and see what there is about it that makes it difficult to handle.
Thanks Ken appreciate the help.

It's a greyscale image. It can only use grey colors.

To use colors first go to Image -> Increase color Depth -> RGB - 8 bits/channel
