Corel Paintshop Pro X2 issue

Post by Ronnie1964 »

Goodday, i have a big issue regarding this software, tho i have a legitimate version while using it with Windows 8.1. After login into my desktop i startup PSP X2, so far so good, but after i close it and want to re-open it some other time...no way, nothing happens. The mouse-cursor is doing something for a while but then changes into the normal cursor. After reboot the problem is over...as long as i keep the program open, if i close it again and want to re-open it again, the same issue. What is wrong, and more important...is there a solution? I'm pretty desperate.

I don't need help anymore, i found out PSP X2 is not really suitable for the newest version of Windows. I'm trying X6 trial version for a while, to see if it pleases me. :D

You might find that PSP X2 stays active in Task Manager > Processes and needs to be "killed" manually before it will start again. Have you tried that?

Not really, i'm running my new O.S. for a week now and i did run PSP X2 several times, only this morning, after i closed it last night i wanted to start it again. I thought i really closed it...nothing on screen and in the taskbar. I never looked in the taskmanager, a bug in windows or P2P X2? But anyway it didn't come up to me to look there. I have the program on a usb device and it's serial number, and i will look at it some other time. Btw the X6 version looks really awesome and it's really fast on a 64 bit O.S. especially when i changed my old harddrive into a solid state one. Thanks for your advice.

Just in case someone else is reading this, I'm able to run X2 successfully on Win8.1, so Ronnie may have some other issue that's causing his problem.

May I come in on this please, as a newbie to the forum?

I've been happily running X2 on an XP machine for many years, and haven't upgraded because X2 does all that I want, and there seemed to be little point in paying for an upgrade for features I wouldn't use. However, the XP machine has now died, and I've bought a new W7 desktop.

My copy of X2 seems to have installed OK, but whenever I try to run PSP (via the icon, or clicking the .exe file directly), nothing whatever happens.

I've also installed Windows Virtual Machine and XP Mode to run a legacy accounts program, so I've tried installing X2 in that, but when I try to run I get the message:
This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.

Any suggestions? Will PSP X2 run on W7? Should I stick with XP, but uninstall X2 from W7 and try re-installing on XP?

No luck! In W7 I uninstalled completely, and tried again to install from the download that I saved to disc back in 2008. As before, this ALMOST completed, but then froze with "12 seconds left". I uninstalled again, and downloaded the most recent X2 version from the Corel website. I noticed that this was a larger file than the one I'd saved to disc, so was probably a different version.

I ran the new install file, and it completed (but noticeably didn't ask me for my key code.) But again when I try to run PSP (either from the desktop shortcut or direct from the .exe file) NOTHING seems to happen — no hourglass or anything to indicate computer activity, and no matter how long I wait, PSP doesn't appear.

I went to the Troubleshooter, and tried the Compatibility routine in 'automatic' — again, it apparently set off, but then there was no further activity of any kind. I tried 'manual', but still no end result.

Something must have installed OK because I notice that .jpg files are now associated with PSP... but the program itself is dormant.

Frustrating!
