Re: How Can I Create A Frame?

Re: How Can I Create A Frame?
Yeah, the images look fine to me too, the feathering only happens or becomes visible once I've rendered the video, as you saw yourself. Like I said, I've got around it in PSP by setting the feathering on the cut out to 3 points, so it's not a major problem, but it might be a problem should I or someone else wish to use the same techniques using a different graphics program like Paint, or something, to create the images for the frame. I don't think there'd be an option to set the feathering in that, so you'd be left with them on the video.

Re: How Can I Create A Frame?
I think I know what might be causing the feathering, but I'll have to try a couple of things to make sure, but I'm saving the video as HDV MPEG files, 1280 x 720. It could be Jpeg artefacts which are the cause. I'm going to try in uncompressed .AVI format and see if I get the same results. If not, well and good, then I can just convert that to my required HDV format.

Re: How Can I Create A Frame?
Hi Michael
How are you using the images. I assume the light video in the top track.
Then the Oval mask in the first overlay track
The Bmp in the second track with fade in fade out applied.
There are of course other options.
But
Create a new project containing the images and affects you are using.
Then create a smart package, zip and attach to your post.
Then we will see exactly what you are doing.?

Re: How Can I Create A Frame?
I am not sure of the purpose of your second overlay track Trevor - if I wanted to get the effect Michael shows I would just put the masks in one overlay track with black colour blocks between them on the same overlay track - as below

Re: How Can I Create A Frame?
Hi Brian
I do understand your approach, I think I was trying to use all three sample images????? and applying a fade-in out.
But why the hairline oval at 17 seconds and again at 26 seconds on the youtube video
That appears to be showing the oval mask with the centre filled with black.
With your layout that would not show as the black is a solid black.
Which is why I asked for a Smart Package to see exactly what is going on.
By the way I created another oval mask using Photo Impact with or no vignette, a crisper outline compared to the sample provided.

Re: How Can I Create A Frame?
Hi, sorry for the delay, we're having connection problems here, so I'll be posting when possible. I can't upload a Smart Package.ZIP file to here because this board only accepts 2MB file sizes. My smart package is just over 2.2MB, even though it only contains 3 files and I can't get it any smaller. The feathering only seems to happen when I stretch the frame to make an oval shape, but there is clearly some 'edging' on the circular outline too. As I said, I made the frame as per the instructions posted previously, using PSP 12 and I've since resolved the issue by making a 3pt feathered cut out. It seems to soften and blend the edges a bit better.

Re: How Can I Create A Frame?
Michael I have sent an e-mail to you so you can send the zipped file. Keep all images the original size.
You say you stretched the shape to create an oval, I assumed you created a separate mask for each shape.
I mentioned earlier in creating a mask without using any feathering the edges being much sharper.
Anyway lets see what your Smart Package reveals.
I will pass it on to Brian when I receive it

Cheers Michael
I have passed the smart package to Brian for his comments.
I have also created a new mask, no feathering which seems to work ok.
I have e-mailed you the new mask.

Re: How Can I Create A Frame?
In the .vsp Michael you say - The feathering starts at 09:23 - so do you agree there is no feathering before that ?
but at 09:23 the video starts to fade and has completely gone by 09:24 so is your complaint that the video fading appears to make the cut-out edges blur slightly ?

Re: How Can I Create A Frame?
Hi Brian
Replace the top track with a black clip, you will see the hairline circle.
This shows when going to black then to another mask shape.
Good night

Re: How Can I Create A Frame?
Well, I finished my video including the frame. There's not much to see but I got the effect that I was after. If anyone's interested, you can see the video on the YouTube link below. The frame with the circular cut out and the light appear about 3/4 of the way through. Cheers for everyones help.

Re: How Can I Create A Frame?
It certainly worked for me yesterday -- and I thought the mask with the bright star/sun effect in it was quite effective... Just checked it again and it's still working (The Night Sky 2014).
