X6 illegal damaged??

Post by spearcarrier »

Paintshop Pro X6
Windows 7

So there I was bipbopping along using the trial version. Literally one minute the program was working. A half hour later, without rebooting, it would not load and told me it had been "illegally damaged or modified, please reinstall from your original source."

Well I've reinstalled various times. I don't know what's going on or how to fix it. By the time I manage to get this fixed my trial period will be done and I won't know if I want to buy this at all.

Help?

Try using the "Cleanup Tool for PSPX6" listed in the forum just above and then re-installing.

Also, make sure Protexis Licensing is started and set to automatic in Services. If this service is not running you will get the error message about the program being corrupt or illegally modified.

Thank you for your replies.

The licensing program is running.
I did the clean up tool and reinstalled using administrator.
I even refreshed Windows.

Nothing is working.

I'm thinking... I most likely don't want to spend money on this at this time if I can't even try it healthily and can't get it to run. Glad I didn't waste any money on it yet. I was about to.

Just a thought. . . When you reinstalled, did you do so from the same original download? If so, you may want to try downloading a fresh copy. It could be that the original file was somehow corrupted while downloading.

Hey there. Well, I tried with the original download and then again with a new download. Nothing has worked.

I ended up just putting in a completely fresh install of Windows 7. It works now, but it's sluggish and has to stop to think often. It was kind of like that before. I have 16 GB of RAM and a Radeon HD with 1 GIG and that makes no difference. For all X4 is 32 bit, it has better performance. I *want* to like X6, but between the hiccups and it's inability to use some of my filters I just dunno.

At any rate, thanks everyone fore trying to help me figure this out. I guess my Windows just somehow got too damaged in the registry, although I can't for the life of me figure out how. I need to switch to mac. :-D

Just a thought, but have you tried the program without any of the plug ins and the other filters you mention.
I have had no real problems with installations on XP and Windows 7, but then I am using a very basic setup without the collections of 3rd party filters and plug ins that others seem to have. I may be that some of the filkters / plug ins are causing some problems.
Always start from simple and then slowly build up to isolate anything that may cause problems.

Hi there! Merry Christmas!

Well, I've got four filters I use regularly: The Effex Pro that came with my X3, a free one called Finetouch, AKVIS Sketch and Bpelt. Bpelt isn't very compatible with PSP, to my disappointment because I use it for work so it primarily gets used in Photopshop.

I do have other filters, but they don't even load anymore. I'll get around to deleting them eventually. So if I have to take one of those four away to get PSP to work... yea, it wouldn't be worth it. I use all of them for the things I do, and I need all of them. A shame, isn't it. :-)

Are you using the 64-bit version of PSPX6? If so, that may account for why some of your plug-ins don't even load. Try opening the 32-bit version and see if your plug-ins load.
