No storage to load BB - what to do with a dump file?

Post by berndbausch »

Is Corel still interested in a dump file from Videostudio 14, SP3? I get the "no storage to load BB" error although I have gigabytes free on all disks. This happens when
  • I import a 13GB AVI file from my old DV camera and
  • ask VStudio to split it into scenes.

It is split all right, but then this BB message pops up, followed by a request to send the dump to Support.

The program then crashes. Luckily, no data seems lost when I restart it; it's therefore not a serious error, just an annoyance.

Just by the way: I also have *.scn files from my ancient Pinnacle Studio editor, which contain the scene breakdown already. Is there a way to use them in VideoStudio?

Screenshots of the popup windows attached.

No one here knows if Corel has any interest in dump files from any source as none of us work for Corel. Certainly no one here knows how to interpret them.

And no, your .scn file will not work with Video Studio -- though it may still work with the current version of Pinnacle (which, yes, we know, is now a Corel product).

Thanks Ken. My hope was that somebody from Corel might be listening. I will remove that dump.

Pinnacle's current software is unable to open my old project files, so I doubt it can handle scn files.

Hi berndbausch

I did some tests regarding No Storage to load BB and found at least one reason for the error, and indeed I was able to replicate this problem

One issue was related to Nesting of VSP files, done by mistake can cause problems and create this error.

The question is what have you added to your timelines? Have you by mistake added VSP Project files.
The error may also be associated with the Library again adding VSP project files.
If standard clips, Video Images etc. are used then there should be no problems, but if you have added VSP Project files (aka nesting) then you may have problems

Can you tell us what type of files occupy the timelines and or library?

Thanks, Trevor. I had seen your post, but my scenario is different. If I understand you right, the problem occurs when I import projects as if they were media files, is that correct? I am fairly sure I didn't do this.

Rather, what I did was adding a large AVI file from my old DV camcorder. DV AVIs are 13GB and have about one hour content, which makes them a bit unwieldy. VStudio can break the file down in scenes, thus creating one thumbnail per scene in the media window. It's possible to scan for scenes during the import dialogue, or by right-clicking on the imported file. The problem occurred when I scanned during the dialogue.

It's a moot point, really. I have a tool that creates one file per scene, so that I don't have to ask VStudio to scan it. This is what I am doing now.

Thanks again for addressing this.

Hi

When capturing /transferring DV-Avi from a Mini DV camcorder the video can be transferred as Split by Scene this automatically creates separate files for each scene.
Video Studio has this capability.
Split by Scene from the timeline simply cuts the video it does not create separate files?

WinDV http://windv.mourek.cz/
A small free program will also capture Split by Scene

I don’t understand why large Dv-Avi files should cause the No Storage to load BB error, I guess anything is possible.

Although you say you are only adding Avi to the timeline, can you check your Library Content, just in case you have added VSP there., and I promise not to mention it again.

I will do a quick test on a large DV- Avi to see if I can replicate the problem.
Will need to render an hour of DV-Avi to one file
