videostudio prox6 problems in trial period - help

Post by mariobradley »

I'm currently using this software to do a music video and am in the trial period. I have mastered the software but as soon as you play it from the start, it plays fine for 50 to 60 secs and then it starts to freeze and I can't edit any more after that. I have 8Gb ram and big hard drive, cant see what the problem is, am using mp4 files. I have also edited the second part of the band, lined everything up, further down the track, that plays fine for about a minute as well...it;s just the bit in the middle, seems to always freeze and hesitate at this point. Any help much appreciated.

All I can think of to suggest is that you try using SmartProxy. That creates standard definition copies ('proxies') of your high def originals (I am assuming they are high def mp4). That takes a little time so you need to be patient. But the standard def copies should play smoothly and make editing easier. Then when you have finished editing, the edits are applied to the originals.

It would, however, be useful to know the exact Properties of your video, so please right click on one of the clips in the VS library or timeline and copy ALL its Properties here (or upload a screen grab of the Properties box).

Thanks for that info, which shows you have AVCHD/h.264 video which is fully progressive at 30 full frames per second. AVCHD is a demanding format, and is one of the main formats for which SmartProxy was developed. Did SmartProxy not work for you?

What are you going to produce with this project -- a DVD or something high def?

Have you tried rendering the project to its final format, and then played it? Did it play smoothly? (I ask this even though I know you are still in the editing phase. But on my older computer I too had difficulty playing AVCHD smoothly, and learned to live with the inability to preview properly unless I used SmartProxy. But I usually found that when rendered to its final format, whether high def or standard def, the new video played quite smoothly.)
