VS9 Import From Sony DCR-DVD 403 Questions

Post by jimenede »

Sorry if these are answered elsewhere . . . could not find them.

Evaulating trial VS9 to go with my recently purchased Sony DCR-DVD 403. I insert into the computer's drive a finalized DVD with a single title but multiple chapters in 16:9 aspect. The project preference is set 16:9. The disk is read and I check the single title for import; all of the chapters are automatically checked. The preview pane in the import box shows the individual chapters in 4:3 even though they are recorded in 16:9. After import, I get a single clip with the entire content (20 minutes), and the entire thing is in 4:3, not 16:9.

I know I can get individual clips in 16:9 by using the USB 2.0 interface to the camera outside of VS9, and just drag and drop clips. However, it would be much more convenient -- and logical -- to not have to use (and cause wear and tear on) the camera and just read finalized DVDs in the computer.

Questions:

1. Is there a setting I've missed to ensure that the clips are imported 16:9?

2. Is there a way to have the clips imported invidually at chapter breaks instead of one massive clip?

3. Is VS9 retaining the Dolby 5.1 generated by the 403?

I very much like the interface and the rest of the features for VS9 and hope there are answers to these questions so I can buy and enjoy . . .

Thanks in advance.

Hi
I have just tried this using VS 9, this is what I got.

1 / Make sure your footage is indeed 16:9.
Right click a clip in the timeline select properties, do they indicate Attributes as 16:9

2 / Selected the ‘chapters’ only indicated by a red tick, imported the dvd to the timeline as separate clips. Selecting the ‘menu’ caused the chapters to be greyed out, and imported in one clip.

3 / Sorry don’t know??????????????

Hope this helps

In answer to 3. No, VS9 does not support Dolby 5:1 (Surround) only Dolby 2.0 (Stereo).
