Start movie on second clip

Post by ericknoebel »

I am using a title menu and having the first clip being used as an introduction. Is it possible to have the play button start the movie on the second clip which is the start of the movie? Thanks

I am not sure what your doing

when you are in the "Create Disc" Window just above the left hand end of the timeline is a small box with "Use first clip as introductory video" next to it - click that box to put a check mark in it - now after you have put your new disc in the player it will play the first clip and then go to the menu, where pressing play should play from clip 2 onwards.

Or did you mean something different ?

I created the whole movie in edit mode. I'm using a "clip in edit mode" section of the movie to play when the menu is displayed. When I hit play I would like to go to "the second clip in edit mode" a section in the movie and start playing there. I'm also using a chapter menu, but wanted to start with a title menu. I'm trying to mimic a DVD that plays highlights during the menu choice and then plays the movie when you hit play. I've accomplished the first part I just need the movie to play from a specific point.
Thank you

sorry I don't understand the "clip in edit mode" phrase - I'll step back - perhaps someone else will know what you mean

From my understanding you create a movie in edit mode by piecing together multiple clips. I have seven clips that I arranged in edit mode. The first clip is a highlight clip that I want to show during the title menu when I create a DVD. When I hit play in the title menu I would like to start on the second clip (or at a specific location in the movie). My question comes down to this, can this be done?
Thanks for the help.

Yes, it can be done but not the way you are trying to do it.

Also it is not clear exactly how you want your DVD to play.
Do you want each of the clips to be selectable from the main menu page?
Do you want to "merge" the clips into one continuous movie and then select the individual clips from a chapters menu?

In any case, if you add a clip to the timeline it will either play as an introductory movie (plays before menus appears) or it will be part of the full movie. If you want to play a clip as background to the menu then you have to select it as background video when you setup your menu.

Hi

I think you need to create separate video files for each scene.
Share Create Video File DVD will create a Mpeg suitable to burn a DVD.
Are your seven clips mpeg2 video files.? Separate video files?

From a new project – nothing in the timeline do Share Create disc, this opens the burner module.
Top Left Add Media -- Add Video File.
For each video file you add a thumbnail is placed on the timeline, these are your Titles, each one has a link (thumbnail) on the main menu (aka Title Menu)

When you insert the disc all Titles will show on the Main Menu page allowing you to choose any Title which will play to its end, what happens then depends on the settings chosen for the Navigation Controls. (Press the cogwheel lower left)
Back to Menu may be the option you need.
There is also a Play All button which will play from the beginning of the disc.

Chapter Points.
Each Title can have chapter points applied, this will create a Sub-Menu (aka Chapter Menu) associated with the Title Menu, Now playing a Title will access the Sub – Menu allowing you to choose a chapter to play, this will then play to the end of the Title.

Clear as mud

Thanks to Canuck and Lata,

Canuck's solution is more in line with what I'm trying to achieve. I created a separate video to use as the background video on my title screen. I liked the way the title screen used a small window to play a preview of the movie verses the background method. Two questions: Is it possible to get rid of the preview screen? (I've selected it and pressed delete but that didn't work). Is it possible to have the background video play in the preview screen or look similar to it?
Thanks guys.

ericknoebel,

I don't know of any way to accomplish what you are trying to do with VS. As far as I know, only movies inserted on the Timeline/Storyline will appear in the preview window.
Also if your menu style has a "preview" window it cannot be removed. If you do not want any preview window then you should choose on of the Text menus.
You can select any video/image for you background for the menu.

I would suggest not wasting too much time on making a fancy menu, after all you want your viewers to watch the movie and not a 30 second menu that loops.

Hi

If you have used a movie as a background movie via the Edit Tab.
Some objects may remain on screen, you can hide objects, select the object on screen right click (I think) and Hide Object

Is that what you are trying to achieve
