Dizzie, if it opens like that it is because it has been somewhat edited before so it can no longer be edited directly in PSP, like hartpaul mentioned. Scripting might be scary at first, but as you had mentioned an example of not wanting to merge layers at the end of the script, you can scroll down almost to the bottom and find a command that is called "Merge down" or "Merge visible" (depending on what the script creator did) and before that, simply add " return" (that is 4 spaces and the word return) and save it. The "return" command means stop to the script so now, the script will stop at that point and the merge won't take place.

Come over the Scrapbook Campus. I have a scripting course available from Suz Shook. It is a fantastic course!

Some scripts open in Notepad (or whatever editor you've told PSP to use in the file Locations dialog). This is because they include items that the simple script editor can't change.

Other scripts will open in the editor hartpaul showed because they were simply recorded scripts.

Editing scripts isn't all that hard. Yes you do have to know how to read the script. But once you've got that down so long as you aren't trying to do major edits you can usually feel your way around. Again these are Python scripts so there is lots of information available on editing python scripts.
