How to Create Borders w/o Merging Layers

Post by danh »

PaintShop Pro x6
-recently switched from Adobe Photoshop

Every time I add a border [image|add borders] all my layers merge.
How can I add a border and preserve my layers so I can save as a pspimage file.

In Photoshop I could add a border to the background and call it a day. Can I do something similiar with PaintShop?

Thanks,
Dan

I think AddBorders hasn't been touched in quite a very long while, so it does things that at one time made sense. I would assume it was meant as a last edit thing for framing. So with AddBorders it's going to merge the layers.

There are simple workarounds that can be used, however. For example, Canvas Size command can be used to add the extra canvas space. And offers a lot more control. It wasn't meant for adding borders, but can do the job.

With Canvas Size you just need to do a little math (adding the total of the extra border size to the Width and Height manually) and hitting the "Center" button in the positioning shortcuts. It's easiest with symmetric borders. But can be used with odd border combinations as well.

I couldn't get the canvas size trick to work write for me.
I did find that that I get my desired results if I select all --> contract --> invert and fill in with black

Thanks for your help
