Gspot confirms your properties Trevor in that it is Xvid - and I have the codecs - no problems at all in playing the video

Ok, codec installed, system rebooted and still the same issue, maybe I need to convert the files to something else as has already been suggested, any thoughts on what to use and what format?

Trevor, the new version of the JPG you sent worked perfectly, can you tell me what you did so I can replicate it. Will it also work on the AVI files too?

Re: VS X6 C++ error on importing some files
Hi Steve
Apologies for delay in replying, Thursday afternoon is badminton, got to keep active sometime.
A few options for converting the video clips, that really depends on what you intend to create, are you intending to make a DVD disc, or a video for the internet. (Mpeg2 or Mpeg4)
The sample you gave was quite poor quality, are you able to provide another sample maybe a little longer. As I mentioned I am getting a strange error message on the first frame, would be interesting if other clips show the same.
Images
I simply used an image editor to re-save the image as a jpeg giving it a new name, that seems to remove the Exif details, not 100% sure that is the problem but if you can import them that all that matters.
Most image editors can batch convert, that would be the easiest option.
What image editors do you have?

Re: VS X6 C++ error on importing some files
Trevor, the idea was to make a DVD, but as you say the quality might not be good enough, I use Photoshop to edit my pics.

Re: VS X6 C++ error on importing some files
Hi Steve
I have sent a new sample mpeg4 via e-mail.
I will do another to Mpeg2 for DVD.
You will be best in getting VS to view the files so
Do you have Div X installed
http://www.divx.com/
You could try that to see if you can then view the clips.
The install does try to install a toolbar browser but I simply deselect the option.
Quick Time should also be installed as a version is installed along with Video Studio X6, but can you double check that you do have QuickTime installed
Images
Photoshop will batch convert Jpegs but I think you have to create an “Action” of the “Save As” process, then use the action in Batch Convert the rest of the images.
