I have a Canon multifunction printer, Pixma MX922, and frequently use its scanning feature. Worked fine with PSP X4, but only as a TWAIN device. Works fine with PSP X6 32bit, with the same caveat ... neither 4 nor 6 "see" the scanner as a WIA device and I'm not sure if its a failing of PSP or the Canon drivers (I have the latest ones, 64bit Win7, only about a month old). My issue is with the allegedly "better" 64bit PSP X6. It doesn't see the scanner in either mode.
I also discovered most plugins won't work with the 64bit PSP. Again, that may be a plugin issue, but they're all there in the 32bit PSP.
While the 64bit version has potential for faster processing, it's a bit half-baked right now. Lets hope there's a service pack that addresses these issues shortly.

Re: PSP X6 64bit Bug
There has been heaps of discussion of both the scanner and plug-in problems in other threads. With your scanner, can you use File > Import > From Camera or Scanner? With my set-up, PSP 64bit cannot find any TWAIN device, but it can see -- and import from -- the connected Brother (and Canon) scanner. In the 32 bit version it can find TWAIN for both scanners.

Re: PSP X6 64bit Bug
Technically it seems like it's a PSP failing, but there is a common mistake people make about their drivers.
There are 64-bit TWAIN drivers, and then there are drivers for 64-bit Windows. If you have 64-bit Windows then you drivers need to be designed for 64-bit Windows, but may not themselves be 64-bit. Whether or not PSP should even see your scanner using TWAIN is a bit hard to pin down. Very few scanners truly offer 64-bit drivers.
Twacker is a program provided by the TWAIN group. This will show all 64-bit TWAIN compatible devices it finds on your computer. And you can bet it works. http://www.twain.org/images/docs/Twack_64.msi
It's not a scanner utility, but it will help you to know if your drivers are truly 64-bit.
---------
Now we believe there is a problem with PSP because VueScan does not show up inside PSP.
VueScan is a universal utility for connecting to all scanners. VueScan does come with 64-bit TWAIN drivers. VueScan shows up in Twacker. But does not show up in PSP X6 64-bit. So very likely a problem with PSP.
VueScan, however, does provide an import plugin that it designed for 64-bit Photoshop which does not have TWAIN import at all. This plugin also works with PaintShop Pro. If I own VueScan I can add this plugin to PSP, and it will let me import images from any scanner that VueScan supports.
So it is a workaround if you want the full features of the scanning software that will work with even non-64-bit drivers. VueScan costs $40 for Standard or $70 for professional. You can determine what features you need. But it does work.

Re: PSP X6 64bit Bug
I use the Canon-supplied MP Navigator software, and select the option to use the scanner driver. That gives me a lot more control of what's happening, and it gives me the convenience of using the buttons on the scanner.
Of course, I can also use the 32-bit version of PSP and get to the scanner driver that way.
The whole 32bit vs. 64bit is a PITA for a lot of reasons. Programs that use plug-ins run into this all of the time. For some reason a lot of well-established plug-in writers don't feel the urge to do 64 bit versions. It can be a lot more than just recompiling your code -- a lot more, especially when you're talking to hardware devices.
Be glad that Corel gives you both versions. Some other companies don't. I wouldn't judge Corel harshly.
