Can't delete files after editing in PSP X5
Sometimes after editing jpeg files in PaintShop Pro X5, attempting to save them raises an error and they can only be saved to a different file name. After closing out of PSP, the original file cannot be deleted in Windows Explorer. Shift-Delete removes the file from the list momentarily, but a refresh brings it back. Normal delete (to Recycle Bin) raises an error that admin authority is required, but clicking to proceed fails. Starting Windows Explorer as administrator does not resolve the problem. Process Explorer doesn't show PSP or any component of it that I recognize still running (and perhaps having exclusive control of the file). After a reboot, the file can be deleted. I have observed this problem on both machines where the software is loaded and registered. Both machines are malware-free. Both are running Windows 7 x64 Home Premium. Could very well be a Windows problem, but I don't have a similar problem with files that are created or modified with any other application.

Re: Can't delete files after editing in PSP X5
Step by step please so others can try to duplicate your problem.
1. You load a jpg image . Are you editing the file im Manage mode or Edit mode or Adjust mode? Do you do a Save or a Save As?
2. Is it particular images or any image. Can you create a new document paint some lines on it and then save it to your desktop . Can you then save it again with a different name. I can do that and delete both images. I can also load the image in, paint some other lines on it and save it again over the top.
If you can do tha than it would suggest tha there is a problem with the images you are editing, if you can't then it would suggest there is something wrong with your installation of PSPX5.
You don't have Norton's antivirus operating by any chance?

Have you checked the file properties? I think someone else was having a similar problem and the cause there was that the files were read only. I've had files set to read only by some unknown operation outside of PSP and then run into problems with PSP.

Re: Can't delete files after editing in PSP X5
Thanks for your replies!
- The files are not read only (raises a different error when attempting to save, and a reboot would not resolve this problem).
- The files are normal jpeg, nothing fancy. In some cases EXIF data has been removed, in others not.
- Files are being manipulated in the Edit tab.
- Doesn't occur predictably, but has occurred several times with different files.
- Have also observed that thumbnails in browser tend not to be updated automatically leading up to the problem, although that happens with far greater frequency.
- One of the machines uses McAfee for anti-virus; the other uses Vipre.
- Also considered the install, initially over X4. Uninstalled, used the removal tool, and reinstalled just X5. Still occurs.
An annoyance more than anything, so hoping the eventual solution isn't more painful the problem! One thing I'm going to do is disable indexing and see if that helps, but since the problem's intermittent, not having it doesn't really prove anything. On the other hand, if I continue to have it, we'll know that indexing isn't the culprit.
Thanks again.

Re: Can't delete files after editing in PSP X5
One other note from my original post. I can't delete the file after PSP is closed, and using Process Explorer can find no trace of PSP still running.

"Doesn't occur predictably, but has occurred several times with different files."
Does it occur repeatably with these same files. Or can it occur randomly with any file?

Re: Can't delete files after editing in PSP X5
Were the files created by you, or downloaded from some source?
When you can't delete: are they opened in another process, or don't you have rights to delete?
All on the same drive/in the same folder as normally deletable files?
