X6 seems to be getting sluggish

Post by MarkZ »

Over the last week or so I've noticed that X6-64 seems to be far slower and less responsive than it was at the beginning. I'm not sure if this is my computer or the program.

There seem to be many to be many instances where a tool seems to stop working and I can see the indicator (Windows moving circle) is showing something is going on. In previous versions, if PSP was writing to file a bar would appear at the bottom showing progress of whatever activity was taking place behind the scenes. This was reassuring as it told me that the program had not stopped dead. That indicator seems to be missing from X6.

Has anyone else noticed a deterioration? Or is it my imagination.

I sometimes notice a sluggishness. Particularly when opening paintbrush presets. It seems to take forever, mind you, I do have a lot!

I've been getting a few crashes too. Almost like PSPX6 runs out of steam. Often a reboot seems to do the trick, but should we have to do this?

I have a very strange thing happen. Art Media brushes have presets. In 64bit they are all there in the Preset drop list. In 32bit, there are none showing. I have no idea how to fix it either as the Locations for folders/files is exactly the same for both versions. Does anyone have any idea why this is happening?

I've just been experiencing a gradual but dramatic slow-down of PSP X6.

I have edited perhaps forty files over the last couple of hours since I last restarted PSP, and realised that it was getting slower and slower to do everything, even just zooming and panning around an image.

When I restarted PSP, I got a small dialogue box with a radio button selected for 'clear cache'. PSP ran so much more quickly after the restart that I could hardly stop in time when panning, rather than having to wait for the image to catch up with me.

That's a new one, I think, and sounds useful...

Under File/Preferences/Reset Preferences... you can 'delete all cache files' (PSP X4 anyway).

Every now and again PSPx6 seems to get one of it's fingers in the wrong hole. (Our son worked in AI, artificial intelligence, and it was a term he often used). Yeah very technical but it's all I can come up with. Works just fine then goes on a go slow strike. The only 'link' I can come up with on my system is the use of the internet. Without a complete test it seems as though my Firefox is hogging some part of the system that PSPx6 also requires. If I turn on the computer and use PSPx6 without using the internet all seems fine. Use the internet and then go back to PSPx6 and I seem to get consistent slow performance. Turn off the computer and start again and all is fine again.

May be a problem. May not be a problem. Some one here smarter than me may come up with and answer.

I think you're on to something brucet. I was using PSPx6 to do some mock-ups for a decorating forum, keeping Firefox open in the background, and PSPx6 was glitchy & slow. First time I've ever found it frustrating to use. But when I closed Firefox, PSPx6 was back to its old zippy, responsive self.

Especially the first time after a Windows restart it takes way to long to start, and it's taking longer than before.
