hi,
when I burned an AVI (that I captured with VS X4) to a single layer dvd VS does the job, except that when I palce the dvd in my living room Sony player I have the following error message : The disk is dirty. I tried twice with the same result! When I capture directly to the mpeg format and then burn a disk I have no problem.
Any idea how I could convert AVI to MPEG (no menu, no edition) in a simple way?
thank you
how to convert avi to mpeg

Re: how to convert avi to mpeg
Can you give us the exact way you burned the avi to the dvd.
You need to share to dvd, which will convert the avi to mpeg, then from mpeg to vob which dvd players can read.

Re: how to convert avi to mpeg
tools \ create disk \ dvd
add media \ add video file (then navigate and select xyz.avi)
remove the check at Create menu
next, next
then on the following screen,
- the dvd burner drive is already selected
a Fujifilm DVD+R 4.7g 16x is inserted
- size is 3.32 (3.57)
- create disk is checked
- recording format is dvd-video
(cannot select any other format, VS is giving an error : Cannot support burning of...)
- Burn successfully according to Corel
- try to look at the DVD with Windows Explorer : it is asking for a disk... but the disk is in
- try to log and look at the DVD files with Ztree : Device not ready message
P.S. also try to "burn" to an iso file on the hard drive, then copy the iso to disk... Same result
if I generate a mpeg file directly when importing from the DV device, then copy the mpg to DVD, it works just fine
P.S.S. is there an avi ti mpeg converter in VS14?

Re: how to convert avi to mpeg
Ok, that looks right, but that error message is disturbing.
As explorer and xtree cannot detect disc the burn successful message is obviously in error.
When you talk about the ISO, you create this with VS?
Then try to burn with VS?
Do you get same error message?
The disc is not recognised but has something on it?
Do you have another burning programme that you can burn the ISO with?
Does this work successfully?
avi to mpeg convertor, just save as an MPeg file, so share, mpeg2. I don't have VSx4 on my pc, but am sure that is the right step to do it.
I'm wondering if the fact the avi is maybe an odd avi file it causing problems.
What sort of avi is it?

Do you have any other drives on your pc? Do they have more free space? Which drive are you using for your temp VS files?
Just wondering if the conversion it needs to do, with the temp files is using all the free space. Long shot, as 20GB is a fair amount, but windows needs 10% to run properly, so 12gb for windows, 8 gb for your files could be a problem.

Re: how to convert avi to mpeg
Hi Marcelzx
Avi is just a wrapper a container holding the video, there are 800ish types, can you give some details regarding your video file.
When you say captured with X4 are you capturing from a Mini DV camcorder?
That would of course be the best option.
Or tell us what settings you used to capture to Avi?
Otherwise
From Video Studio-insert your Avi to the timeline , right click the clip and select properties, what are they.?
You can create an image of that window and attach to your post.
You may be best to convert the Avi to Mpeg2, then use that to burn a DVD.
But first give details of your video AVI file………
