I have always thought that loading a project takes quite some time but since upgrading to HD video (camera) those load times have increased.
It seems that VS must be reading EVERY video clip (file) associated with the project BUT what does it do after each clip is 'read'? Are they loaded to memory?
What can speed up this process? Just a faster CPU, an SDD drive, faster memory, more memory or all of these things?
Which of these will have the biggest effect on loading a project.
I am just about to build a new PC and want to know where to invest the majority of my budget.
Thanks.
What is the PC doing while a project loads?

Re: What is the PC doing while a project loads?
Depends on complexity of project, how many cuts, transitions, edits, effects etc you've added.
It's all about reading the instructions and preparing for work.
If you've deleted any temp files etc then it may be rebuilding these?
Best processor you can afford, decent amount of ram, good video card, ssd and large fast content disc in that order for me.
I don't use VS daily, but my programme, edius will load a complex project in seconds.
