Paint Shop Pro X6 Upgrade Install Hangs

Post by JimPrice »

Have been running Paint Shop Pro X5 without issue. Just purchased and downloaded the upgrade to X6. During install, the license information is presented, but after clicking the "agree" checkbox and slecting "NEXT", nothing happens. No error message, the NEXT button remains bold as if it has not been selected. Repeated download with same results with 2nd download. Turned off real-time virus checking, same result.
CorelPainterLite (free with X6 upgrade) fails in the same manner.

Dell XPS-8500 with i7-3770 CPU, 12GB Ram, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.

What's the trick?

OK, problem solved, sort of...
Corel support advised me to remove Microsoft update KB2670838 and PSP6 would install.
I uninstalled the update and PSP6 installed just fine and appears to be functioning.
Problem is, you can't run Internet Explorer beyond Version 9 without that missing update.
I'm not a fan of Internet Explorer, but not sure I want it disabled on my computer in order to run PSP6.
(You have to wonder what else has been crippled)
I will not be "upgrading" any of my other computers to PSP6 until this issue is resolved.

It's nice to read about solutions to the various problems. I wonder what could be done to highlight the various problem - solution combinations. They tend to get buried in the chatter.

I've never liked Windows Explorer and was pleased to discover Google Chrome. I've been using it exclusively for a number of years and like the uncluttered view. I'd never go back to Explorer.
