I have some photos that might look good as a tryptich or "broken-up" into even more components of equal size and then framed separately. Is there a relatively easy way to do this with PSP X5? I saw a youtube tutorial on doing this in Photoshop that included overlaying some guide lines over the image and then repeatedly cropping and saving the resulting image.
I haven't found the right tool to do this in X5, though I assume such a thing exists. And I'm not sure how to describe the thing to the help file search. I've tried freehand cropping, but it is pretty inexact. Is there a way to get a more accurate sizing?
Also to those who have done this before. How important is accurate sizing of the component images? Is "close - enough" good enough? I keep wishing there was a wizard available where I could specify the number of rows and columns a photo could be broken up into and then have the wizard do the cropping and auto saving of the resulting image. Any 3rd party software that might help?

Re: Creating a tryptich with PSP X5?
I've never tried such a project but I think it is very doable and easy in PSP.
To draw a guideline, move the cursor to the left or edge of the window. The cursor icon changes to a cross - left click and drag the guideline to where you want it. Make sure ruler is turned on as a guide for positioning. You can draw both vertical and horizontal guidelines.
Draw the crop tool to the size you want using the guidelines. When positioned, choose "crop as new image". The new image will flash and then you are returned to the one you started from. Move the crop tool to the new position without resizing it and repeat crop as new image. Repeat as many times as you want and you now have the separate images.
If you want to combine sections from different images, as long as they are the same size, choosing crop in another image will give exactly the same size as the first image crop.

You could look up 'using rulers, grids and guides' in the help files.
To duplicate what I get from your Photoshop description you'd add guide lines to the photo (vertical and/or horizontal) and use those as cropping guides.
In very short:
1) Menu View/Rulers (ctrl+alt+R)
2) For horizontal guide: click in the top ruler and drag the mouse/line to where you want the line.
or
2) For vertical guide: click in the left ruler and drag the mouse/line to where you want the line.
The guide colour can be changed under View/Change Grid, Guide and Snap properties, the Guide tab.
If the rulers don't show the units you want (inch, centimeter, or pixel) go to File/Preferences/General program preferences/Units and adjust Rulers there.
You can use the crop tool to "crop to new image" as often as you want. You can also use the rectangular selection tool.
The rectangular selection tool has the option to create a selection by pixel coordinates. Via the tool options palette (F4) on the right: Create selection from... the left button, Custom selection. Then Image/Crop to selection
edit: MarkZ got there first

Re: Creating a tryptich with PSP X5?
It is possible to create such a wizard with PSP scripting. But it would take a little time.
Having never used this script before I can't say if it's what you need or not but, Cassel has created a number of scripts especially for fancy editing.

Hi GlenBarrignton,
Here's a tutorial I wrote some time ago that may help you. It's for a Triptych and Polyptych.
