How to make own colour still clip
How can I make a white colour clip the same shade as the white vignette filter.I want to place overlayed images with a vignette
onto a white clip on the main video track so that they blend seemlessly in X5.

Hi Ken
Try changing the background colour to white, the top track will have to be empty.
Settings – Preferences – Background colour

Re: How to make own colour still clip
Sorry Trevor, I am not with you here. What background do you mean ? The background for the images is a white colour clip already(but not he same shade of white that the vignette shows therefore I can still see the straight outline of the edge of the images)If the top video track is empty, how will that display a white background for the images to show on top of.? What I am aiming for is a collage effect with all the white edges of the vignette showing the same shade of white so that all the images blend together into the back ground with the same shade of white everywhere

Re: How to make own colour still clip
Trevor is referring to the background of the video itself - that is the colour you see in the preview window when you have nothing at all in the timelines.
to change that do as Trevor says and go to Preferences and click on the black square about 2/3 of the way down where it says background color.
this will open a dialogue to choose colours but you do NOT want the pure white option - so instead pick "Corel colour Picker" now you can choose how much red green and blue you need in each colour - or - along the top you will see a row of very small icons - choose the last one - grey - now you may have to experiment a little to get an exact match - I just had a play and found that the third one down in the very right hand row gives a very close match for me - but colour balance differences on our screens may mean you need to try a different one.
but it is also quite easy to make a new colour block of any shade of any colour you want so if you would prefer to use a colour block it can be done - this is a short video of me making a colour block to match the vignette colour - - http://youtu.be/unDMdbjhAwQ

Re: How to make own colour still clip
Hi
Hi Guys
When I tried the vignette this morning I was sure the background white used the same shade of white as the vignette.
Now I have repeated my test and can clearly see a difference, surly the FX vignette would work better having a transparent surround not coloured? At least have the option of using transparent?
Brians technique will work, but it’s a shame the colour picker does not have an auto picker, allowing us to click on screen to choose a colour.
Ken
You could also try using the Mask & Chroma Key – Type Mask Frame.
There is an oval that creates a similar effect to a small vignette, but using this option the outside is transparent.

Re: How to make own colour still clip
Hi
Ok I think I have the solution I found earlier.
F6 – Change the background colour to White
You have to take a snapshot of the empty screen to create an image, but you need some content to activate Take a Snapshot.
Add a clip to the overlay track, move the image off screen, as far as you can.
The screen will now show all white, empty
Take a Snapshot (edit – Take a snapshot)
White Image thumbnail in library
Add snapshot white image to the top track
FX vignette the images in the overlay track.
I don’t see any whitish frame…the vignette blends with the background.

Re: How to make own colour still clip
After following Trevor's advice I see the edges of the vignetted image as gray compared to the white background.

Re: How to make own colour still clip
I think part of the problem is that that vignette filter is a mild gradient going from almost white/very pale grey at the bottom to a light grey at the top. I am not sure you are going to be able to match the gradient on a colour background swatch -- it wouldn't be easy, I think.

Re: How to make own colour still clip
Your vignette seems to show different shades of grey even around the edges. I don't see how you will ever be able to get a complete blending so that you cannot see the "edges".Kenneth Veal wrote:After following Trevor's advice I see the edges of the vignetted image as gray compared to the white background.

Re: How to make own colour still clip
This is my effort,
In Preferences I selected white as the background colour
Added image to overlay track
Applied Vignette filter
Selected options
Customize filter
Click on Matt colour
Then selected exactly the same colour as applied to the background

Re: How to make own colour still clip
Thanks Robert
For confirming it is possible.
When I ran the tests I did not need to change the Matt colour, seems the correct shade was already selected.
But yes changing the Matt to use the same as background works well.
And should work for other colours.
