Re: Putting a folder in the navigation window
So a couple of us are intrigued with your problem. Could you post a screenshot of your windows browser with the top-of-tree and subfolder names showing of the folders that fail to show in Navigator?
Have you tried changing the names of the culprit folders? Are there unusual characters in the names?

Haven't tried changing the names of the culprits yet.
I use only good old English words in my folder and image names. The only unusual character might be a dash which I use to separate the fields in a date.

Re: Putting a folder in the navigation window
jimbir,
I'm willing to bet that '1 Photo and scanner files' is a hidden folder. If you view the tree from 11_My_Documents, the folder icon for '1 Photo and scanner files' should have the same 'transparent' look that you see in the right pane for '1 Els stuff' and most others. 'Autos and motorcycles', and 'Aviation', among a few others, are NOT hidden, the 'transparent' folders are. Unfortunately, in Windows 7 at least, the tree view doesn't show hidden folders transparent, you need the folder in the right pane for that.
So you can't get the top level folder '1 Photo and scanner files' in PSP because it's hidden. If you drag a non-hidden folder, like Aviation' into PSP it will accept that folder, but omit hidden folders and files within Aviation, like Curtiss.
My guess would be: right click on hidden folders, and if necessary files, and uncheck the 'hidden' property. Unless you really want them hidden, but then PSP won't catalogue.
It can't hurt to try one folder.
Edit: strangely enough, when you click Browse more folders' in Collections the picker does indeed show hidden folders.

Re: Putting a folder in the navigation window
Jimbir:
What stands out for me is that Windows Explorer seems to differentiate between the folders that you can see in Navigator and those you can't. The icons for some of the folders are lighter than others - the one's you can't access are lighter. Compare Aviation and Cat, Curtiss and Bell. In Curtiss you have Shrike as light and Willard darker so I suspect Shrike contains images or files that cannot be opened or cause the inability to be shown in Navigator.
If I were trying to resolve this I would first look in a directory such as Shrike to see if there are unique files that could cause the problem. I don't know if looking at the file properties would help - my impression is that Explorer shows very limited information about the file attributes and I'm not sure if attributes would show anything about corrupt files. I notice that you have photos and scans - could the problem be with scans?
To confirm this I might try the following or a variation thereof:
- Create a new folder (Say, Test) in a directory that Navigator accepts and confirm it can be accessed from Collections.
- Select a folder that is faulty and has few files and move the suspicious files to Test. Check accessibility of both. If the files cause the problem Test should become unaccessible and the other should become visible.
- Continue a few files at a time until there is a change in visibility.
- And if I had moved them all and no change then I would beat my head against a wall.

Re: Putting a folder in the navigation window
A special thanks to MarkZ. and Forriner!! Hidden folders was the problem. I right clicked "scanner and photo files" and, in the properties, it was shown as hidden. I unchecked the hidden box and when it asked if I wanted to apply the change to all the subfolders contained in that folder, I clicked yes. All the folders were unhidden with two clicks. When I looked at the collections, all the subfolders in the Aviation folder were automatically updated without my having to re add it!
I don't know why the folders were hidden. I never intended them to be.
I've seen a lot of people having the same or similar problem. This solution should be made into a sticky with credit going to you two guys.
If you're ever in N. Tonawanda NY, email me, I'll buy the drinks!

Re: Putting a folder in the navigation window
Glad to be of help, jimbir, it was getting pretty frustrating wasn't it. At least now you'll have time for Christmas shopping and I won't have to fix another hole in the wall.
It's December so Merry Christmas. Bottoms up!

Re: Putting a folder in the navigation window
This resolution has solved an issue for me.
If you select "Enable Auto-Preserve" in General program preferences, when you save a file the original is saved in a sub-directory called "Corel Auto-Preserve". Since I elect to show hidden folders in my version of explorer, I knew these folders existed but was bothered that I could not see them in Navigator. In my Explorer the icons for these folders appear the same as for all others. A long time ago I posed this as a bug and received a response from Corel that this was put into their queue for resolution, and nothing else since. Now I know that these folders are created as hidden and making them visible enables me to select them directly from Navigator. It's too bad that Corel couldn't have responded that the folders are designated hidden.
LeviFiction explained why the folders are created as invisible in Navigator but some nerds such as I do sometimes want to take an original, without deleting the saved version, and have another go at it.
