As I observed Paint Shop Pro X2 creates (under Win 7) in
C:\Users\P\AppData\Local\Corel\
a big file
ImageDB.db
I guess it contains meta information about previous edited pictures.
Can I prevent in PSP creation?
Can I simply delete it?
Will it be re-created on-demand?

Re: Can I delete ImageDB.db file?
Yes, you can delete it but it will be re-created when the program is next launched. Typically this is deleted if the user is having an issue with the program hanging.

I don't know about X2, but imageDB in X4 is the Collections catalogue database for the manager/browser. You can delete it but you'll have to rebuild it if you want the manager functions. I don't know how long that would take, or if PSP also rebuilds the existing thumbnails at that time.

Re: Can I delete ImageDB.db file?
I've deleted this file a number of times, for example to illustrate use of Collections. As you recreate the Collections it grows. Deleting it is one way of clearing up garbage and starting over.
Another area that uses lots of storage is Thumbs (C:\Users\MarkZ\AppData\Local\Corel PaintShop Pro\16.0\Thumbs). I'm not sure if thumbnails are deleted if they are not used for a long time but this directory can become very large. I doubt if the system cleans this up; just had a look and there are thumbs of images I have not accessed in many months.

Re: Can I delete ImageDB.db file?
Thought I'd resurrect this thread (after searching the forum) because X4 seems like it's getting slow to respond, especially creating new folders or moving images in between folders.
So just a few mins ago, went to C:/Users/edwinn/AppData/Local/PSP/14.0/Thumbs
did a "properties" and found 10680 files, 5652 Folders, and 3.91 GB (4204 MB).
Wow.. I'd like to wipe as much of that away as possible and start the dB over, but without losing settings and paths, etc. Please advise what to delete, and what NOT to delete. This is to generally speed things up and reclaim drive space.
What about: /14.0/database/ImageDB.db file at 156 MB?

Re: Can I delete ImageDB.db file?
The ImageDB file can be deleted and it will be recreated the next time PSP is opened. If in doubt, after closing PSP rename the file to something else (in case you want to recover it later) and then restart PSP - you should see a new ImageDB file. You can then decide to delete the (old) renamed file.
I have deleted many Thumbs sub-directories without creating problems. I just did an experiment: renamed Thumbs directory and opened X8. It opened normally but was a bit slow as the thumbs for the active directory were re-created in a new Thumbs directory. Then closed PSP, deleted the new Thumbs, renamed the old back to what it had been and all worked well. So it should be safe to delete the Thumbs directory.

Re: Can I delete ImageDB.db file?
I believe that the Thumbs folder is created to speed up loading the thumbnail images that you browse when you open folders. So deleting it doesn't really hurt anything as long as you don't mind it taking a bit longer for the thumbs to be rendered again when you open a folder of images.

Re: Can I delete ImageDB.db file?
Thanks, I did that this morning.. renamed the DB file and Thumbs folder in separate tests. But kept the DB file at ~150 MB and deleted the Thumbs folders. Actually decided to RaR the thumbs to an external USB drive. There were 21 RaR file, 184 MB each.MarkZ wrote:I have deleted many Thumbs sub-directories without creating problems. After that, notice I had an X5 (v15) Thumbs folder (never registered that trial) and deleting them, saved another 1GB.
