CorelGuide Hangs After Download of Title Pack 7

Post by GaryG45 »

This afternoon I downloaded Title Pack 7 for VS Pro X5, using the Get More Content icon. From what I saw everything worked fine for the download/installation. I received a message that said in order to see the new titles in the Library I had to restart VS X5. When I restarted it, I got a white window with the word "OK' in the upper left corner where the CorelGuide usually appears and VS was unusable. A reboot of the PC didn't help. A search of the forum found an entry from Oct 2013 that mentioned a possible problem at the Corel web site, and mentioned to use ALT+F4 in order to use VS. The ALT+F4 worked, but if I click on the Help icon at the top right corner, I go back to the same problem. Every restart of VS encounters the same problem. I know I have service pack 1 installed, but I cannot determine if service pack 2 is installed.

Is anyone aware of a problem at the Corel website with CorelGuide? Did the download of Title Pack 7 cause this problem, and if so, does anyone know a way to fix it?

Hi Gary

There have been some issues with the Corel guide, but are server side and should not affect the running of the program. The white screen seemed to affect X4, but as far as I know is now working, well working a little better, I have just tried X5 with no problems, installed Title Pack 7, no problems

Indecently for each pack installed you will get 10 extra titles available in the library.

All downloads from the Do More including Service Packs are saved to download folders, they have numerical names that don’t really describe the content, makes it difficult to id the contents.
C:\ProgramData\Corel\Downloads

Search for VSProX5_SP2.exe to locate SP2, during install if you receive a message stating the current version cannot be determined then the service Pack is installed, just wrong wording by corel.

There have been some issues with internet browsers and Browser Manager, Browser Protect, Babylon, may cause problems with VS accessing the internet???
Do a search of the Corel Knowledge Base for more info, basically uninstall these if you find them.

The only way to remove the Title Pack and Service Packs is to re-install the program.
But given that the problem appears to be the server, internet link I doubt if that will make any difference, but may be your last option.

Hope that helps a little

Trevor,
This problem seems to be about the same as described in topic - VSX6 Ult - Blank Corel Guide "Welcome" Screen. Our blank screens are a little different, and I'm using Pro X5. I let it sit with the blank Corel Guide Welcome screen for 30 minutes and nothing changed. ALT+F4 is the only action that lets me use the product.

I have 44 titles in my library now and only had what came with X5 previously, so I don't know how many were added by the Title Pack, if any. I checked C:\ProgramData\Corel\Downloads and found folders that contain DoMore_Title_07 and one for SP2. In case I didn't install SP2, I downloaded it from the Corel website and tried to install it. I received the message indicating that it was already installed.

I checked for Babylon, Browser Manager, and Browser Protect, and none of them exist.

On Nov 20 I installed the lastest version of Adobe Flash Player 11 Active X - 11.9.900.152. I'm pretty certain that I started VS X5 after the installation, and it started without problems. It was only after the download/install of the Title pack that restarts began to have the problem. I'm going to check a few more things before attempting a reinstall.

Hi

Video Studio X5 has 34 Titles in the library, then adds 10 for each Title Pack
If you see 44 then you have added one pack.

I have also installed that pack, a few days ago, I do not have a problem with the Corel Guide.
The guide loads within a few seconds, annoyingly the sound level on the video is very loud. Navigating through the tabs is instant, Do-More takes longer given all the content I am not surprised.

I believe the Guide will save to a cache within the program, similar to Internet Explorer saving a history, that loads first, except for the default video and download links, they needs internet connection. So once the guide has loaded successfully, it should always show.

Without an internet I see the first page, but a white panel replaces the video.
I can navigate the tabs ok.

I thinking the cache file may be corrupt, if I can locate that cache/history to clear it the guide may re-load ok?

Re-installing Video Studio should do that, clear the history

Trevor,
Thanks for all of your help. It looks like I'm at the reinstall step. Before I saw your last reply I cleared IE10 history and temp files, ran a couple of virus and malware scans, and double clicked on the DoMore_Title_07 application in order to reinstall the Title pack with VS down. Same results on restart of VS after each action.

I do have some questions before I uninstall and reinstall VS X5. I plan to copy what is in the My Documents\Corel VideoStudio Pro\My Projects folder to an external drive. I do have some titles and transitions in My Favorites. The transitions are no problem because they are unaltered samples that I put into My Favorites. I cannot find a folder that contains the titles in My Favorites. Is there a way to preserve them? Maybe I missed the folder while searching for it. The only thing I can think of doing is to make each one an instant project, so they'll be in the My Projects folder.

Hi Gary

You can backup the library by using Settings Library Manager, Export Library, create a folder for these files.
As far as I know this should save all library pages, apologises if you loose some, I assume it saves all?

First when you hit the orange button top right, do not press the mouse again.

What actually happens, the blue windows halo timer may show, be patient and wait until that timer disappears.

Ok try this to reset the program to its installed default
Close Video Studio X5 (back up the library first)

Go to C:\Users\User Name\AppData\Roaming\Ulead Systems\Corel VideoStudio Pro

Rename the folder 15.0 to 15.0 old

Starting VS will generate a new 15.0 folder

Otherwise re-install Video Studio

Trevor,
I had to uninstall and reinstall VSX5 to fix the problem. The rename of 15.0 in the /AppData/Roaming/Ulead Systems/Corel VideoStudio Pro directory didn't fix the issue.

I do have a new problem, and I'll open a new topic for it after I do some research. Briefly, the problem is that when attempting to import the Exported LIbrary Import Library gives me an error message. Prior to the uninstall I created a folder on a thumb drive and did the Export Library to that folder. It contains 26 files and 2 folders which contain folders and files. After the reinstall I have 3 transitions in My Favorites and no Titles. I only had 6 titles in My Favorites, and I used only 4 of them. I'm pretty certain I know a way to get them back from old projects that exist on an external drive.

Thanks again for all of your help.

Hi Gary

I have run through the Import Export library process, I saved to a folder to my desktop.
I had no problems provided I selected the root folder, as you rightly say there are two sub-folders and 26 files.

I assume you did select the main folder and not the sub folders to import the library???

Trevor,
I created a new folder on the thumb drive and had no problem with the Export/Import. I believe this was probably a user error. I cannot recall if I received the message "Media Library has been Exported". The message I received the exported folder from yesterday is:
Files import error. Files can't be imported, maybe number of files is not correct or files are invalidated.

I went thru the normal process to eject the thumb drive, and took it out after I received a message stating it was OK to remove it. My guess is either I didn't get the message about the library being exported or maybe the corruption that caused the CorelGuide to hang caused a problem with the export. We can consider this issue solved. Thanks again for all of your help.
