Re: Sound level problem when burning DVD
Spaceman,
don't believe the marketing hype about DVD sizes. They state that they can store 120 minutes of video but what they don't tell you is that that the video would be highly compressed with a resulting loss of quality. A standard 4.7GB DVD can only hold 60 minutes of video at best quality (at a bitrate of around 8000). To get 120 minutes of video on the same DVD the bitrate would have to be reduced to near 4000 which would mean that you "throw away" a lot of video data and reduce quality.
As far as I know ImgBurn does not "convert" an oversize iso file to fit on a DVD. That means that at some point you must have selected to create the highly compressed file in VS
PS. I see that Lata has already posted about the size/time issue regarding DVDs.

Re: Sound level problem when burning DVD
Good grief, will the problems never end…?
Now, in watching the freshly made DVDs (specifically, the two films that are two hours long, and are therefore on dual layer discs) that a little bit after the half-way point, a significant lip sync issue suddenly appears in the flims themselves…
Any thoughts?

Hi
Problems using Dual Layer has been mentioned earlier in this post…….
My experience using Dual Layer discs was disastrous, I bought 25, ruined about 6 then gave up.
Always a problem halfway I assumed where the layers change??
I think Bluray may be the way to go, although that’s more expense in purchasing the hardware?
There have been others having problems with DL, do a search of the forum, I’m sure you will find some info.
Here is a recent post from Candy

Sorry I don’t have a solution

Re: Sound level problem when burning DVD
Over the weekend, I just happened to be looking at the video file of one of the films, and noticed—much to my shock—that it contained the lip sync problem too; I had pretty much assumed that it only appeared on the DVD, and didn’t even think it would be on the video file or the ISO file…but, there it was.
I went back to take a look at the project in the timeline, and it was fine (no lip sync issue, anywhere). I then returned to the video file, and watched it to try and determine where the issue first appeared—and there it was, right at the 1 hour 33 minute mark (the whole thing is 2 hours and 6 minutes): the audio suddenly and inexplicably goes off by about 1 second…

Re: Sound level problem when burning DVD
which video file are we talking about?
The original?
The one produced by VS?
What file types are each?

The one produced by VS (through the Share tab, to make a DVD video file).

Hi
Create a video file before burning the disc may help with the out of Sync issue.
With the project open in the timeline, choose Share Create Video File.
You may be best to choose Same as Project Properties, first edit those to use Mpeg2 properties. (Alt + Enter)
At 2 hours 6 minutes a data rate of 4000ish would be required , that will/should fit to a disc without further conversions.
Does the new Mpeg2 file have audio sync issues?
If no
Now start a new project- nothing in the timeline
Share Create Disc – DVD opens the burner module
Top left for Add Media Files Add Video, browse and add the new Mpeg2 file created above.
Create the menu
From the last page Create a Disc Image
The burn process should start with Convert Menu
If you see Convert Title then the movie is being rendered, this is not required as you have already created the Mpeg2.
Does the new ISO have sync issues

Re: Sound level problem when burning DVD
Lata, thank you—yet again—for your help.
This option isn’t ringing an immediate bell—so when I get home tonight, I’ll make sure that it is selected before I try to make another video file…lata wrote:You may be best to choose Same as Project Properties…

Re: Sound level problem when burning DVD
Hi
You are in the US and will use Ntsc standards
Your Project Properties should use similar properties to these:-
NTSC drop frame (29.97 fps)
MPEG files
24 bits, 720 x 480, 29.97 fps
Upper Field First
(DVD-NTSC), 16:9
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 8000 kbps)
Audio data rate: 256 kbps
Dolby Digital Audio, 48 KHz, 2/0(L,R)
Share Create Video File Same as Project Properties will use the above properties
The data rate 8000 is ok for 2 hours to a Dual Layer, for single layer 4000 would be used.

Re: Sound level problem when burning DVD
From memory (sorry, I’m not at home at the moment) that looks like what I’m using—with the notable exception that I’m specifying 5 channels, and not just stereo… Could that have anything at all to do with the sound issues…?

Re: Sound level problem when burning DVD
Hi
Surround Sound should not cause the audio sync problem.
Some users have had problems in using the burner module to render the project, this has been an issue since time began, at least for some people.
You should render the project to a new mpeg2 file to make sure there is no sync problems, then use the new Mpeg2 to burn an Iso, then again check for sync issues.

Re: Sound level problem when burning DVD
I never knew what this option did, so I never messed with it—but that did indeed fix the lip sync problem.lata wrote:With the project open in the timeline, choose Share Create Video File.
