PSPx5 problem with backgrounds not coming off.

Post by Jodi »

I hope someone can help:

I have been using the background eraser to take off white backgrounds and keep the inside (gif) part of them. The eraser does erase the background and does output it as a .gif however when I go back to look at it as a .gif, it is still on that white background. Any help would sure be appreciated as I am a newbie to this.
Thanks in Advance.

GIFs use a single color as a transparent color. So, if your image has a solid background color you can actually leave that there or color it. If it doesn't have a solid background color I suggest you add one.

When you go to save the image use Save As. Select GIF from the list and then click the Options button in the bottom right corner.

You can also use the GIF exporter under the File menu.

But the dialog that pops up should offer you a way to define what color you want to use as transparent.

Thanks Levi:

I sure do appreciate you answering my question. It is still happening tho, and maybe I can explain it somewhat better. The graphics I am using are already on a white background, and I am want to remove the white so that the background stays transparent, and out-put it as a .gif which I have done but it does NOT stay as a transparent background. When I look at the .gif later (after out-putting as a .gif) the white background is back on there like I never touched it. Any other comments are appreciated.
Thanks;
Jodi

Hi Jodi,
Just tested in X4 (you did not say which version of PSP you were using) .
I made a red circle on a white background, selected and deleted the background (magic wand, delete key), so that the red circle was now on a transparnt background.

Then I chose Save as and selected Gif as the save type.
Choose Options (bottom right of Save As dialog box) then Use Optimiser.
Check the Existing image or layer transparency button. Complete the save and you should have the red circle on a transparent background when you reload it.

Thanks HartPaul:

Since my first post we have found out that PSP X5 has a known issue on this matter, and was told by a tech that PSP x5 probably is no longer supported by Corel. And I have had mine just barely a month. And now no tech support on it. I am going to try out the wand and thanks for your help.
