Looking for tutorials for Video Studio Pro X6
I have Video Studio Pro X6 and I'm looking for some introductory tutorials. By "introductory" I means how to create a basic video.
Imagine you just came back from a family vacation and you've got lots of video, in different files, maybe shot on different devices, and you want to take the best parts and make one movie with them. You need to edit down to the highlights; you'll want to put them on separate video/overlay tracks so you can fade/transition between them, you'll want some titles and you'll want some audio - either music, audio from the videos, or narration. Where can I find a tutorial that explains how to do that sort of basic stuff?
On YouTube all I can find are tutorials that either just list the X6 features but don't give you step-by-step on how to use them -OR- tutorials on how to use advanced stuff like Track Motion or green screens or scripting and similar stuff I'm not interested in at this point.
Thanks in advance.

Hi
Video Editing can be quite complex and maybe a steep learning curve.
Take it step by step.
First create separate folders to hold the various types of video files, I assume they are HD types recorded to SD Card
Transfer the video from camera to the folders
Then insert Video to the library or timeline, right click timeline and insert video.
You now have the video in the timeline, my first edits are to remove all the rubbish, trim unwanted frames.
Have you seen this site

Re: Looking for tutorials for Video Studio Pro X6
Hi,
I found the book, "Picture Yourself Making Creative Movies with VideoStudio Pro X5" by Marc Bech, to be a great help when I started. It is for X5 not X6, but I don't think there are major differences, especially with the basics. There are video clips that you download to use with the step-by-step tutorials in the book. My only concern with the book is that when the author used pointers in figures they were dark blue and were difficult to see with the black background for most VS panels. I still use the book as a reference.
This forum has also been extremely helpful to me for things I wanted to do that may not have been covered in the book.

New User Requests Info on Appropriate Tutorials, Training
Thank you in advance for your help.
This applies to Video Studio x6 and PSP x6 which I have purchased and downloaded in the past weeks. My previous experience is with PSP x2.
Here is my goal. (Ken may understand)
I just retired at age 65. I have been deemed by the family to now have the time (and equipment) to capture, edit and present (in some digital format) decades of family photos which are in boxes. Plus, I also have about two thousand digital pics of grandchildren plus hours of digital video from Sony cameras which I know how to download - and have done some basic editing as DVD creation using Sony Vegas. I would like to presenrt the edits photos as a "pan and zoom" slide show in my VideoStudio(?)
I have what I believe to be an exceptional photo scanner (Epson V500) for capturing photos that are not yet digitized.
I am definitely going to purchase one-on-one training sessions.
Any advice about tutorials and other resources would be would be appreciated. Also, please advise which forums are appropriate so that I can respect forum content.
Is there a way to connect with users or personal tutors in my area?
Many thanks -

Hello Eddie - welcome to the forums - I have moved your post here to a new topic along the same lines as your so we can run the two simultaneously.
Could you start by reading the posts above yours as they give you some basic information.

Re: Looking for tutorials for Video Studio Pro X6
I have lots of experience with Adobe Premier Elements so I'm not a total noob, but I want to learn how to use Video Studio Pro X6.lata wrote:Hi

Yes and that's an example of the problem I was talking about. Under Edit the list is:
Trim Video Footage
Edit Ultra HD Videos
Adding Subtitles
Stabilize Shaky Video Footage
Using Visual Effects Filters
Creating a Time-lapse Effect
The first one is about MultiTrim, and that's it. There's a lot more to editing a video than that one feature. Subtitles are useful, but again, that's a small, narrow topic. The other four are very specialized.
I want to learn how to work with multiple tracks, multiple scenes, transitions, synchronizing audio, adjusting color balance, brightness, contrast, adjusting to different video source material that has different aspect rations from the final product, etc, etc.
Video Studio Pro X6 seems like a powerful tool with lots of capability but the tutorials are fragmentary and few and far between.

Re: Looking for tutorials for Video Studio Pro X6
That video is about trimming a video clip. I'm not sure why you suggested starting with this one. Before editing anything I'd like to find out the best ways to plan and organize a project for the Corel product.BrianCee wrote:start by watching this one :- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ZpyGPbI ... F623D9732A
Remember my example was "Imagine you just came back from a family vacation and you've got lots of video, in different files, maybe shot on different devices, and you want to take the best parts and make one movie with them. You need to edit down to the highlights; you'll want to put them on separate video/overlay tracks so you can fade/transition between them, you'll want some titles and you'll want some audio - either music, audio from the videos, or narration."
So assume that my projects will have lots of source material , many tracks, etc.
Not sure I understand this. The videos YouTube shows to the right on any particular video you're watching are different for each person. I don't know what video you see to the right of it on your PC, but I see are "Best Method to Plant a Tree or Shrub", " Dramatic 747 Take Off From Bournemouth, Hurn Airport " "The Genius George Carlin ", etc.then work your way down the list on the right of this video.
I couldn't figure out how they were organized. I'm sure there are some great tutorials in there but they seem very random. You will also find many tutorials written by members of these forums here :- viewforum.php?f=48
I come from an Adobe background and there are lots of books out there by many authors that take you through whole projects, even on their beginners products like Premier Elements. I'm looking for something comprehensive like that for VideoStudioPro.

Re: Looking for tutorials for Video Studio Pro X6
To Trim a clip
With clip in top timeline
Assuming you wish to remove frames from the beginning…….
Play the clip to the point where you wish to remove frames.
The Curser position indicator, the vertical hair line indicates a frame.
Using the scissors (lower right of preview screen) cut the clip.
You now have two clips, delete the first clip.
Other options
Below the preview screen is a horizontal bar, float the mouse over the ends to indicate the Trim Markers, dragging these will remove the end frames. The Square brackets next to the scissors also trims the ends to curser position.
Important …..Make sure you are in Clip mode not Project playback.
Removing frames from the middle of a clip
First cut the clip in the middle then treat each clip to remove end frames as above.
Read this guide for more info on the bar below the preview screen.
Apologies fro the colour difference, at one time it was blue

Re: Looking for tutorials for Video Studio Pro X6
Nope, not for me. In the list they showed me there were two other video-editing choices. The rest were related to other topics I had viewed in recent days on YouTube, or things I had Googled. As I said, the way YouTube works, everybody sees something different. Google (YT's parent) tracks what videos you've watched and what Google searches you've done and compiles a list of what it thinks you, personally, might be interested in.BrianCee wrote:I don't know what you did there but with that particular video the suggestions to the right are attached and come as part of the package - did you not see the following :plnelson wrote:Not sure I understand this. Re: Looking for tutorials for Video Studio Pro X6
I mentioned the book, and it covers a lot of what you are looking for(multiple tracks, transitions, color balance, audio, import sources) but not everything. The book uses step-by-step tutorials with videos and jpegs you download to demostrate the features of VS X5. The majority of the chapters build on each other, and by the end of the book you create a DVD. It shows many of the features of VS X5, and obviously it cannot show all of them. About a year ago I had only trialed another product, and other than the trial had never done any video editing. I searched for books on VS and only found this one in X4 and X5 versions. It was very helpful to me. As I mentioned previously, when I've encountered an issue that wasn't explained in the book, the members of the forum have been extremely helpful, especially if you provide adequate details as to your problem or what you want to accomplish. Good luck!!

Thanks for all the info on the tutorials. Didn't know there was that many out there. Learned a couple new things.
