PSP X6 Color Management

Post by Cadencia »

It is my intention to use PSP as my external editor to Adobe Lightroom, in place of the subscription Photoshop. The workflow is:

Import the raw photo into Lightroom
Perform the exposure and color adjustments etc
Edit the photo in PSP to perform cloning and other changes using levels etc. (To do this, LR creates a new file, a 16 bit TIFF with embedded Prophoto profile and adds it to the catalog.)
Exit PSP, saving the modified TIFF.
Continue the workflow as required.

The problem is that PSP saves the TIFF without the embedded ICC profile. PSP correctly interprets the incoming profile, and I am using Prophoto as the working space, and everything works as expected except for the final save. I can work around the problem by choosing to "Save As" using the same filename, in which case the default IS to embed the profile, but it is annoying to have to bully the program into overwriting the existing file of the same name.

I hope this is a bug, rather than a deliberate design, because a bug might get fixed, but my record for getting bad design decisions reversed is not impressive. I don't think it's operator error, but it could be, of course.

In the meanwhile I can continue with the Adobe product - but I feel there is a definite marketing window for Corel, and making integration with Lightroom smoother would be sensible.
