Recent Problem with PaintShop X5

Post by Coconut »

Hello,I am new member Coconut :D ,searching for answers to no avail.

Script Error Text: The attempted operation is not valid in the current program state.

PSP X5,Windows 7.I get the error when trying to use the inner bevel.
Around two weeks ago,X5 starting loading with what looks like dos windows, only with white backgrounds.
It loads so fast that I can not really tell what that is.
I have tried 8bit,16 bit,I took out all of my own installed plug-ins and scripts,etc...nothing works.
Sometimes the inner bevel window pops up,when I go to put in settings, the window closes and I get the error window.

I am not going to go uninstalling, reinstalling unless I really need to,I have only had this new comp a few months.
If anyone finds a solution to this problem,I would be grateful.
Personally,I do not think PSPX5 is compatible with Win7.I will keep searching.

thank you for reading,
Coconut

I have split your post off from where you originally posted it as that thread was specifically about PSP X4 and your problem is a distinct one with X5.

I will leave it to others with more experience in PSP to answer the specifics. However, I think you will find that no one agrees with you about X5 not being compatible with Win 7. I for one, and many others, had no trouble running it at all under Win 7.

Probably one of the first things to do for many of these problems that just start to occur is to reset your preferences (perhaps save your workspace first ). To do that you hold the shift key down while you double click the PSPX5 icon on your desktop.
Then try to use your inner bevel and see if it functions normally. Then load your saved workspace and check again.
If you need more help to locate this problem you wil need to go through step by step what you are trying to do. It needs to be able to be reproduced by others for them to be able to see what the problem is.

Re the Dos windows with white backgrounds that you cannot see, you might try downloading and installing a screen recorder program and record what happens. Then you maty be able to examine that in a video editor to isolate a frame showing what it is.

Thank you for the reply hartpaul.
I reset PSPX5 last week.Nothing changed.
I reset it again yesterday after reading your post. The popup windows are gone, however, still no inner bevel.I will wait a few days and reset again.
It will be ok for now.I have a few other techniques that work almost as good as inner bevel. Not as easy though.

thank you,
Coconut

I installed PSPX6 last week.I did not overwrite PSPX5,so I have both.It fixed PSPX5.
I am thinking it was a shared file that may have gotten overwrote from something else that was installed.Maybe one of those pesky dll files.
I am happy now, working in one or the other,no popup windows, with Inner Bevel.
Thank you for your posts.
