MF4 sound problem on silent movie!
MF4 sound problem on silent movie!
I have an AVI of a silent movie. It was a VHS copy of old 8mm movies. I thought I could reduce the final burn size by using MPEG audio instead of default Dolby digital, because as I said there was no sound to be processed. Quality set to default 80% with bitrate at 4500k and output was to ISO. DVDMF4 aborted as soon as I started to render. It did the same thing with ouput to DVD, with a variety of quality and bitrate settings, it also crashed using LPCM. However everything worked fine with the audio set to Dolby Digital. Strange.
Customize the template and lower the bitrate to save more space. Under the project settings, uncheck the "do not convert compliant...." option. Whether Dolby or MPEG, there is no big difference in terms of file size which one you use. Use Dolby audio since the software does not crash but be sure to lower the bitrate.

Ploggy,
The bitrate he posted is correct for a dv type2 file. It represents BYTES
not bits.
Ruggy,
According to your post the video is 126 minutes long.
That shouldn't be happening with the sound but you said there isn't any
sound. There is sound in the file but they are zero values. The channels
are there.
Maybe run a test by replacing the audio with a different audio pcm file.
See if there is an error.

I don't actually understand that 741kbs video bit rate for a dv type2 file he posted.
Usually it's 3699kBps for full quality (approx). Type2 dv.avi.
Looks low unless he customized the bitrate settings after re-rendering the avi.
I misread Ploggy's post thinking he was referencing the dv file :.<
(Ploggy was referencing the mpeg settings at 4500 for over 2hrs of video which is high & why he suggested to lower it).
Anyway, using MF4 with a video that has no useful audio data at all you can export the avi file using the new MF4 icons on the left of the screen
(used for exporting to mpeg2).
Create a mpg2 file and select "Video Only" when making a custom template.
Render that out to a mpeg2 file and then Import the file into MF4. Works.
Burn & Go.
