Does it have these features?

Post by kvernknurr »

I am thinking of trying the WinDVD trial and maybe purchase it, but I absoloutely need some features on it, and I am wondering if anyone can help me out here.

It needs to play any bluray disc, and I also need a sort of "record" function. (like VLC has) so it can record small bits of the video to my PC. (It doesn't need sound btw, it's for making .gifs). Either a record button like VLC has, or a way to "snip" video in other hassle free ways.

Does any of the windvd programs have that? And also, which one of the programs do you think I should get? (like, how far "back" does it play bluray?) the winDVD 11 is the newest, right? Does winDVD 10 play bluray? Is it any more affordable? Does it also have a sort of recording function?

edit: oh, it doesn't matter I guess. The blurays I got are so protected, even winDVD (trial) can't play them. :(

All of the features of WinDVD are listed here :-
http://www.corel.com/corel/product/inde ... 00008#tab1

but none of the Corel products will make piracy easy for you

Thanks for the link! Also, tsk tsk, not all of us are pirates. As stated, I am going to make .gifs, which is why I needed a record function. That's why I didn't need sound. Sound is just a bonus if I'm making a gif with subs. Anyway, when I go to "tools - capture" I get that a panel showing up, but I can't click any of the things, and I can't figure out what they are suppose to do.

(I had to get the DVD passkey lite to get the Bluray to play.) Cannot believe there was so much hassle to play a bluray on a computer!

Taking still images of a copyright video might still be piracy.

Anyway - why not just play the video in a full window then pause it and use the Windows Snipping tool to lift the image straight of your computer screen into your hard drive.

Hmm, well that's actually an interesting discussion, which I don't know enough about to discuss without just guessing. But either way, the resulting .gif one makes, is always edited in some way (colours reduced, cropped, etc) so it's not a pristine image taken right from the movie. It's a bi-product. And it's usually not any problem for producers/people who own the rights of the movie, because it promotes their movies in ways they could not pay it to do. (I am talking .gif sets and screencap sets on Tumblr, there are literally millions of gifs and screencaps on there for moviewatchers to enjoy, and no film company in their right mind would think of this as piracy or copyright infringement) There's just no point in complaining about a 245x150 pixels wide 15 framed looping gif being piracy of a full movie.

Anyway. The windows snipping tool would only allow one and one frame and it would be near impossible to get it as fluent. I don't understand, if there is a video recording tool in winDVD, how come I cannot use it (the trial is supposedly a complete fully functional trial)? I even read a tutorial on how but it doesn't show me the right icons.
All I get is this:

and I cannot click the buttons. :-S Am I missing something here?

Well I didn't think there was a video recording tool in WinDVD - I only ever use it to watch videos - can't help you any further - see if someone else knows.

Hey Canuck! That was the link I was following. When I click tools - capture and open the "capturing browser" (the panel shown in the image I linked) that it the panel that is showing. I do not get those icons of the video-strip. Only the greyed out image of a camera and a "record button") again, as shown in the picture I linked.

I don't get this icon: Image
