Error installing PSP X6 trial

Post by little_me »

edit: Seemingly I needed to create a new administrator account and install it with that. my own user account (admin) didn't work and neither did my old administrator account. No idea why but made a new account, installed and worked.

Well, To sum it short, I can't install it.
I've tried to download the trial installer (PSPX6_TBYB30.exe) from corel site with four different browsers (IE, Opera, Firefox, Chrome) in case browser somehow corrupts it, to no better result. (size 259 060 536 bytes)

Run installer, it unpacks things, starts real installer but before it can ask me anything or show anything but the progress bar, it runs into an error and closes. No, the error is not usual error code that would tell what is wrong.

"Initializing the Installation wizard" at around 10% it runs into windows error
"Setup.exe has stopped working"
"A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available"

Installer log says nothing out of oridinary.

Here is the end part of the installer log:

okay... so event viewer and logs there? it gives two things of interest:

that error c000000d and BEX seem to point to data execution prevention and other weird stuff So I went and tried to add the installer to exclusion list. to no better result.

If anyone has good ideas as to what I could try next to see if the X6 is good for me (and if it works)

edit: Seemingly I needed to create a new administrator account and install it with that. my own user account (admin) didn't work and neither did my old administrator account. No idea why but made a new account, installed and worked.

And all this took only 6 hours.. I feel stupid and at same time confused, what is/was different in new admin account than the others?

Don't feel stupid. It's not really explained why this works.

At first, I couldn't install PSP X6 trial version either; everytime I got a blank screen and installation stopped in the middle of the registration procedure. So I contacted the Corel helpdesk in my country (really surprised to find a real helpdesk with a living and competent helper!), where I was provided a solution that worked perfectly. Please note: These instructions are for Videostudio, but they are also valid for Paintshop. The instructions are here:

Hope it helps you as well as it helped me!

Hello josephlin,
I would like to report back that the Google.drive link DID install.

I opted for the 32-bit+64-bit installation. So far I am seeing an increase in processing speed doing the same image filters in X5 and X6 - X6 seems to do the same thing faster.

But at least it DID install without jumping through any hoops and did not generate any errors.

Thank you for correcting the installation issue!
