Video Studio Locks Up When I Click On Transition

Post by ragnar35 »

I have Video Studio Ultimate X6. For some reason, when I click on a transition to drag it to the time line, the entire program locks up. Some times, I can drag 1 or 2 transitions without a problem - and on the third, it locks up. I have restarted the computer numerous times, and that doesn't solve the problem.

Running Windows 7, 64 bit, 8 gigs of ram, Intel Core i7.

The program seems to work perfectly other than this one issue - any suggestions?

Thanks,
Paul

Does it happen with any transition or only one or a small group of transitions? How much time do you wait when the program locks up? While it shouldn't lock up at all, I have learned that with some actions in VS, you have to wait for a while and then the program responds again...

In Preferences > Edit, down at the bottom of that tab have you set a default transition? If so, does that transition get inserted without a lock-up?

Hi Ken,

I really appreciate your response. I am not 100% certain, but it seems to be only the 3d transitions. When it locks up - it locks up to the point that the top bar says "program not responding". I will keep trying all other transitions, and see if the problem is only centered around the 3d transitions.

How long do you wait before you "give up" when it says "not responding"? I also get that sometimes but most often it goes away after a short period.

I have done some testing, and the problem occurs only with the 3d transitions - it allows me to drop the two, 3d transitions, and when I try to drag and drop the third one, it doesn't allow me to drop it in the time line. I have waited for several minutes with each attempt. The "not responding" doesn't appear until I use the mouse to click anywhere in the program (such as attempting to use the scroll bar, etc). Once the "not responding" message appears at the top of the screen, I have to use the task manager to shut the program down and restart it.

I'm not sure that this is a hardware issue - I have loads of ram and a modern, fast machine.

I have tried to copy your workflow but cannot get the program to hang. I inserted 7 video clips into the timeline, of various lengths and formats (wmv, mp4 and avchd). I then dragged and dropped different 3d transitions between the clips -- in all, I tried 6 different ones, chosen randomly from the 3d collection. All of them inserted quickly and correctly in the timeline.

I also tried different video clips, with different transitions already inserted (none of them 3d). Then I dragged and dropped different 3d transitions into the timeline to replace the ones already there. Again, the change was quick and the transitions performed correctly. Again, I used 6 randomly chosen 3d transitions.

So I am afraid I can't reproduce your problem. I too have an i7 processor, but apart from that there is nothing particularly special about my computer specs, and I only have 4 MB of RAM.

Can you try using the video samples provided by the program rather than your own video.
That way we will be using the same samples to test as you.

Do you have problems using those samples
