Deleting Multiple Posts

Post by Ken Berry »

Because of the increasing frequency of multiple posts caused by the faulty Board software, I think it might be useful if people become aware of the following:

1) If you write your post and click the submit button, but nothing happens AND/OR you eventually get an error and debug mode response, DO NOT CLICK ON SUBMIT AGAIN. In fact, your post has gone and will appear on the Board.

2) If you do get excited and click on Submit a number of times, you will then get a number of identical posts on the Board. (This is becoming a daily occurrence and I trust our new moderator will do something about it soon.)

3) BUT you CAN remove the unwanted multiple posts. Here's how: when you submit a post and it appears on the main part of the Board, click on that item and you will see in the section containing your post an 'Edit' button up in the top right corner of that section. Click on that, and your original post re-appears in draft form. But below the pane containing your draft message, there are five check boxes, the bottom-most one of which is 'DELETE this post'. Check that box and then submit, and that copy of your post disappears from the main board. Repeat however many times are necessary to remove the multiple posts.

I think the Delete only works if your post is the current Last post in the thread. If someone comes along and replies to your post, then you can no longer delete your post (afaik).

Thanks George -- that may be so. Maybe I have just been lucky and have gotten in and deleted my multiple posts before anyone else posted. But it might be useful if someone could try it out on existing multiples...

Thanks for the info, Ive managed to delete two of my duplicated posts.
One other though I could not delete, However I did an edit and simply replaced the whole entry with a single full stop. It made the thread look a little more aesthetic.

Thanks sjj1805 -- was the one you could not delete followed by other postings, and were the ones you succeeded with, final postings?

Ken, yes you were right. The one that I could not delete had entries after mine.
The one's I could delete were at the end.

It's not necessary to use the 'Edit' button Ken - if your post is the last in the thread and it is 'deleteable' (??) then to the right of the 'Edit' button is a small square icon with a cross on it - clicking on that will allow you to delete the thread directly.

EDIT - OOOPs - no not delete the thread - delete the POST

Ain't that the truth Ken :)

btw, I'd like to thank you for pointing out this ability to folks -- we've seen a number of double posts (no fault by the poster -- it's due to the increased number of error messages that are happening on the initial post).

Being able to delete the duplicates is good -- so thanks for starting this thread :)

No problems, George. BTW, I notice that our esteemed moderator has now posted a stickie on this subject at the top of the Board.

I'm sure he meant to say "delete the posting."

Thanks Keith -- that's the way I read it too; and I tested it and it worked to delete my message...

Yes indeed - my error - it does indeed delete the POST - not the thread, - although that could be useful sometimes !!

No similar thread in Media Studio forum.
I just by accident created a duplicate in that thread but there is no way of deleting it.

If you open the thread, and yours is the last post -- you should see in the heading line on the right hand side options to Quote, Edit, and an "X" to delete it.
