X6 Ultimate/problem with saving images

Post by caspia1 »

Bought X6 Ultimate a couple of days ago.
Whenever I try to edit one of my old images I get message that I cannot do it because I AM NOT ALLOWED TO OVERWRITE....or YOU DO NOT HAVE THE NECESSARY PERMISSIONS, or YOU NEED TO GET ADMINISTRATOR APPROVAL...etc.
How do I get over this, because the only way I can make amendments is by renaming the image each time.
I use PSP 7 and got the same issue.
Can somebody please help me out, as it´s a pain? I cannot find anything in the guide or the Learning Center.

I also have a problem when I copy and paste (merging images) When I need to adjust the size of the inserted bit, the image does not change straight away to the new size. I have a new computer with Windows 8.1 and 64 bits. Is it a graphics card issue or is it a glitch in X6?

I presume you are in edit mode and are saving as jpgs.

1. Try File > New document and make a 1000 x 1000 image use paint brush with some colours to do a bit of drawing. Save this to your desktop as a jpg, using save as.
2. Remove the image from the workspace by closing it.
3. Reload the image , paintbrush again make a couple of changes and then Save. (not Save As) Does this work.

You mentioned old images, were they on a separate hard drive. Have you moved those to the main computer or are you trying to save them to this hard drive?

I have had a problem before where I loaded some images to the desktop from a hard drive and it refused to overwrite the images . This was a windows error / feature rather than a PSP problem.
Check the properties of the file and see if it is read only , or you have permissions to overwrite that image.

Does this have something to do with file properties? I have had instances where files were changed (I don't know how) to read only and I had to do a global change in a directory to enable me to save the files.

<<<<<Sorry, I don´t know where to find where it shows "read only" or otherwise. In any event I just want to give myself permission to do what I want with my images!!
I know it sounds dumb but I am seriously p***** off!
Thanks for your help. It is appreciated.

<<<<<<<I have been using psp 7 as a browser on a separate screen. This has been pretty useful. I used to be able to simply move images from one folder to another without problem.
This was with windows 7 and a 32 bit system.
Now with 8.1 and 64 bits I cannot even do this with the old psp 7.

You would need to select all the files (photos) by clicking in the folder they are contained in and typing Ctrl+A. Next right-click and select Properties. The properties box is pictured below with Read Only circled. Just make sure read only is not checked.

Thanks for this. I think I have cracked it.
I found the folders, unchecked the "read only" BUT ALSO went into SHARE and "allowed" sharing, as my tag appears there.
The problem was that I had all the files in another computer and even though they are actually in an external hard drive, the properties still applied.
By allowing "sharing" and unchecking the "READ ONLY" I can now edit all my images as before.
I can understand the rationale for PSP to encourage keeping the original images intact, but in reality you can achieve the same result by re-naming the image.

Many thanks!

X6 Ultimate/issue with pasting layers

Post by caspia1 »

I have a problem when I copy and paste (merging images) When I need to adjust the size of the inserted bit, the image does not change straight away to the new size.
Often the inserted layer does not even appear when I paste onto a new layer. I have to fiddle around to get it to appear. Then when I adjust it simply cuts in parts.
I have a new computer with Windows 8.1 and 64 bits. Is it a graphics card issue or is it a glitch in X6?

I was experimenting with vectors (see Vexing Vectors thread) and while doing that I noticed that the program was very slow redrawing or refreshing. Others have mentioned this in their posts. I think it is a problem with X6 and Corel had better get at fixing it. I don't know if it is an issue with SP1 or the program itself. I got around the issue by zooming in and out to prompt a redraw and at another time when zoomed in by scrolling the image up and down. You may be experiencing the same thing in what you describe. All very annoying.

To the best of my knowledge, when I have had files "read only" PSP is not the culprit that caused that, it is something else in the computer and I don't know what. I have had whole folders end up that way and had never edited the files within.

You are right about re-naming to save a different version. You may also be aware of the Auto-preserve feature which can be set in Preferences. If you have that turned on after a save you can select Edit/Revert and PSP deletes the current version and brings back the original from storage.

I only downloaded the X6 Ultimate from Corel a few days ago. I automatically checked to see if there were any updates and got the response that there were no new ones, thus SP1 will be in my program. So, the issue goes back to Corel themselves because the problem continues to be there.

Well, it looks as if I have the problem solved.
Corel were very helpful with their chat line.
The answer is as follows :-
Reset the program's configuration file to rule out or solve corrupted or damaged default configuration files issues. Please see the attached article or click the link below for instructions on doing this process.

http://corel.force.com/index/articles/e ... -000016466

Pretty simple to follow and fortunately it works.
Thanks for all your help on this site, everybody.
