After three days of agony with an ADS Instant DVD 2.0 and Ulead software, we're appealing for help.
The basic problem is the inability to:
1. burn DVDs (-R or +RW)
2. on either of our two DVD Burners (Sony internal, MadDog external)
3. that will run on three of our 4 DVD players (Phillips, Toshiba, JVC and KHL ... respectively three, two, one year old and the other brand new).
In other words, the KHL (newest, but cheapest ... it's a DVD drive built into a small TV ... $129 at Best Buy) is the ONLY player that will play the DVDs we have converted.
Yes, we have tried every permutation and combination of the above.
ALL of the DVDs will play on all 4 or our computers with DVD players, running on either WinDVD 4.0 or 5.0.
ALL of the players play ALL commercial DVDs without problem regardless of how old the DVD is.
The System:
2.8 GHz, Pentium 4
Windows XP SP2
160 GB hard drive
512 MB RAM (have another 512 stick but have not installed yet.)
We have used the following software
CapWiz 3.1
Video Studio 7
DVD Factory 2SE
Nero Express 6
We're Capturing from a Panasonic VCR
We have tried capturing the video using both CapWiz and VS7 with no difference.
We've used DVD Fac to convert the MPEG2 file to a VOB that Nero Uses.
Most of the time, when we press play/OK, the DVD players simply give us a "no disc" or perhaps an error message. Sometimes we can get the opening menu/splash screen, but then nothing happens (other than some noise in the Toshiba drive followed by No disc)
We did have one exception: when we used DVDFac to create a VOB and then used Nero Express to burn, we got a DVD that ran in the JVC and KLH but neither the Phillips or Toshiba.
ANY IDEAS ... on how we can produce DVDs that will play on the other players? Important because the KLH is out in the garage in front of the treadmill.

Check http://www.videohelp.com/dvdwriters to know what disc media is compatible with your burner, and check http://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers to know what disc media can be compatible with the player.
Some burner company like Lite-On will provide an Book-Type setting tool for their burners, maybe you can check it out. To set the Book-Type of the disc you burn to be DVD-ROM will have the best compatibility for playing on the stand-alone player.
Also make sure you have installed the latest updates and patches of DVD MovieFactory.
Hope this helps.
