Window Around Photo Size Issue

Post by milezone »

Hi All,

I am not sure I can explain this correctly but will do my best. I have used PSP since version 2, so have been at it for awhile. Just upgraded to 6, as I was using version 4.

The problem I have is when I am in the edit area, and have a photo on the screen I use my mouse wheel to enlarge or shrink depending on my needs. The old version the windows box around image would also resize with image. I have attached a few images to maybe help explain my issue? I normal could fix this in the settings, but for some reason the window will not follow the image size as I enlarge or shrink? It does when I actually resize image, but I need this to do that when I am just using mouse wheel to make bigger or smaller on my screen. Thanks

Russ

You explained it just fine. A couple other users have noticed this as well http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php ... 26#p278426

It appears the change occurred with SP1 and it has been reported so hopefully it will be fixed going forward.

I see the issues, also I see someone mentioned they installed update? Where do I find this, as I just downloaded the new version a few days ago, but did not see any updates?

Since you recently downloaded the program it's possible your copy already includes SP1 which means you are stuck with the update and there is nothing to roll back to. The version number with SP1 installed is 16.1.0.48.

If you do not have SP1 and want to update it can be found here http://www.corel.com/corel/pages/index. ... id=7100001 just keep in mind this is what caused the issue for others.

Just a weeny workaround that does wonders to the wonky window: Press Ctrl+W to snap the window back to fit :D

This is really just a footnote about program versions:

Have you really been using PSP since version 2 (when it was produced by JASC)? Or do you mean X2 -- which is Corel's way of saying version 12 (Roman X for 10 plus 2). Thus you would have just upgraded to X6 as you were using X4. Getting the version number correct will avoid confusion in any future questions you might post here -- since some of the PSP users here have a verrrry long history with the program.

Yes I have been using Paint Shop Pro since the old days of JASC. Not a pro nor claim to be, just know my settings I am used to and seeing the auto correct window size when I roll my mouse button larger or smaller is not working. Just a big quirk of mine, and makes the new version almost not usable to my eyes. I understand the Ctrl W, but really do not want to take an extra step when the new system should be easier? I feel a bit forced to buying the new version as my v4 would not work with Windows 8. I am an old fart, so always stuck with PSP due to knowing the quick tricks and basics of getting around. Corel support has been pretty much useless, as I have gotten more info here then from them.
I think this will be last purchase of PSP, always tried to stay away from PhotoShop, but I think it may be time I switch over and learn a new system. So thank you for your time, I think maybe I try for a refund of this system, which doubting that will happen unless I go through my CC Company.

milezone, this feature was changed because of a large number of requests for it to be changed to work this way. The people requesting it cited Photoshop as having the same feature. Zooming the image without resizing the window.

I beg to differ. As milezone wrote, the window used to fit to image while zooming if the two options in Preferences were checked. Unchecking them meant the windows did not resize. To me that means the Corel introduced a bug if things don't work as they did. Requests from Photoshop users? You could just have told them to uncheck the zoom options. That's how it's worked for generations.

Yes, fully aware of that. That is exactly the complaint I've sent to Corel. I fully agree that it makes no sense. However, the reasons given by the Dev team were the large number of requests from users for this. Citing that it's the way PS worked. I also thought it completely bunk, but it's still why they claim they did it.

My point, however, was that moving to Photoshop when this one thing makes PSP practically unusable for milezone doesn't give them what they want.

So if we want our program to work and look like Photoshop we should buy Photoshop!

Why not just copy everything Photoshop does? Including the price!!!

Come on Corel. What's wrong with being different?

Just so you know I asked "Photoshop" people about this, and they said window sizing is an option that users have, so it can follow the size of the image. Sounds to me like Corel wants you to think they have tons of people asking for something that I think (and thinking many others) is plain crazy. I have asked for a refund, but of course will never get a response after that I am sure with the history of support they have. :-(

The 'problem' is that Corel don't want to be different, they feel they need to ape Photoshop because users ask for it.
PSP used to be soooo good in the Jasc days AND different. I have heard many stories of PS users who also used PSP because it was different, easier to use and did things (customization) that PS didn't do.
I wonder if Adobe users demand PSP features...

Received this from Coral. Now I am no computer whiz, so option one seems way out of my expertise so think I will wait for option 2, if they are in fact doing an upgrade soon.

----------------------------------------
Thank you for contacting Corel Customer Support.

With regard to your concern, the reason why we need to verify your Corel PaintShop Pro X6 product build version is because there is a current issue with the recently released service pack 1 for Corel PaintShop Pro X6 which when installed updates the program's build version to 16.1.0.48 x64, kindly refer to the link below for more information.

http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php ... 14#p278514

Two temporary solutions are proposed,

••• Solution One •••
(1) Remove Corel PaintShop Pro X6

(2) Reinstall the product by downloading and saving the Corel PaintShop Pro X6 FTP Download Links provided below and using your serial number. An FTP download link, which is the mirror copy of the disc installer that has the initial released build version 16.0.0.113.

Corel PaintShop Pro X6 Ultimate Collection FTP Download Link - ftp://coreluserd:Qgo69iX7@cfs2.corel.co ... PX6-UC.zip

• Click on theCorel PaintShop Pro X6 Ultimate Collection FTP link or copy and paste the FTP download link in the Address Bar on your web browser (Ex. Internet Explorer, Firefox Mozilla, Google Chrome, etc.) then press "Enter".
• You will be prompted to save the file, kindly save it on your preferred folder or to a specific folder location for easy access.
• Click "Save" to start downloading the product file.
• After the download process is complete, access or locate the folder then right click on the downloaded file and choose "Extract Here" / "Extract files on the same folder" / "Extract on..." options.
• After extracting the files, locate the folder where you have extracted the files, or open the same folder if you have chosen "Extract Here" option, choose or right- click on the Setup.exe file and select "Run as..." or "Run as Administrator" to run or start the installation.
• Follow the prompt for installation instructions.

(3) After reinstalling the Corel PaintShop Pro X6. install Service Pack 1 before installing the Creative Content and/or Creative Collection.

••• Solution Two •••
(1) Do not install the service pack.
(2) Wait until the new version for a couple of days and re-download it again.
