Support for Fujifilm Finepix .raf Raw format

Post by GregS »

Does anyone know if and when Corel AfterShot Pro will support the .raf format for Fujifilm Finepix cameras? I have an HS30exr and it seems that AfterShot is the only program that will not support Fuji.

A short answer would be that no-one here knows. A longer answer would be that if that camera has a Bayer sensor, and I assume it does, then it's possible. But we have no idea how long you will have to wait. Last time Corel had to temporarily rehire one of the old Bibble staff. They may need to do that again. If they did then it would make sense to wait until all the newly released cameras are available and do then all in one batch. That's the soonest that I'd expect it, but it may take considerably longer, like support for last year's cameras did. For .RAF from Fuji X-trans sensors, my view is that it will never happen.

The Xtran is both a blessing and a bane depending how one looks at it. For one, the X tran is resoluting more details than the typical bayer without the need for the anti moire filter but on the other hand it is causing havok in terms of developing software solution.

The way I see it is that Fujifilm is making sure that the output is already fantastic with JPEGs OOC and that in itself is something to commend on. For once those who are not great at post editing won't feel disadvantaged.

For the rest who like to post edit, then have to wait for alternative. In the meantime, Silkypix convert RAW to DNG and then do the necessary in Lightroom/Photoshop.

Silkypix even though shipped by Fuji, does not get the max out of the Xtrans sensor.
Check out LightZone or Photo Ninja if you really want to get the most out of Xtrans sensors.

cheers

Please Corel, support the fuji X-trans captor in aftershot.
It is not just one camera. Now it seems most a whole family of Fujifilm cameras : X-Pro1, X20, X100s, X-M1, X-A1, X-E2, X-Q1.

For what it's worth, here is another vote for X-Trans support (for me, specifically for the x-m1).

It'll be awkward to not have the files from the x-m1 in the same catalog as my other images, even if nothing else!
