HDR Batch results differ from HDR exposure merge

I ran some HDR exposure merge files, then did HDR Batch with a couple of other sets. The HDR Batch appeared quite different from the single group operation so I did some testing merging the same files in the single operation and the Batch. I did not apply any adjustments in the single group operations. The quality of the batch HDRs is very poor, unusable. My expectation is that when no adjustments are applied I should get the same results from HDR batch as HDR exposure merge.

In the example below the result of the batch operation is on the left and the single operation on the right.
