VS9 Mpeg will not play on some computers - codec issue

Post by JoeSquid »

I am sure this is a newbie question:

A few of my friends are unable to view the MPEGs I make with VS9. In VS9 I chose the DVD Video 4:3 option when I make the MPEGs. Some computers can play them fine and other are unable to play the video. I am sure the issue has to be the lack of the appropriate codec on their PC.

So a couple of questions:

1) Is there a way to force VS9 to use a specific codec so I could chose one that is very common?

2) How can I get the codec so my friends could install it on their PC?

have a look at this http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic.php?t=5173 it is the same problem, VS8 has the option of including a player on the disc however VS9 does not.

so it sounds like if I include the installer for, say, a trial DVD player program then that would install the MPEG2 codec.

Yes, just install some application that has MPEG-2 codec like trial version of Ulead DVD player and(or) Intervideo DVD player, then the DVD can now be played.

1) If you are going to make DVDs, technically the codec used is the standdard MPEG-2 codec, which is a universal codec driver for DVD.

If you are going to create video file, VS9 support numerous codecs, generally if a computer has that particular codec then the video file can be played.

2) Which codec? Again, you need to know the codec used in the video, the be sure to have that codec in the PC you are going to play back the video.
