Apparent Bug in relating to Face Finding

Post by rkl122 »

Hello. I upgraded from X4 to X6 Ultimate x64, (by download yesterday), so I have no prior experience with the face finding functionality. I ran the scan on a directory and it produced several thousand unnamed thumbnails, as expected. Now I'm in process of apportioning the groups among a series of named labels in the people tree of the navigation pane. Mostly it goes ok, but there are certain groups, or individual thumbnails within those groups, that crash the program every time. The windows event log is always the same, and apparently the culprit is the file msvcr90.dll (version no. in the fifth data line of the XML view below). The error code is 0000417. Incidentally, and very curiously, the particular thumbnails that cause the crash are almost always (but not exclusively) of the same person (scattered among many photos)!?

This is the first and only X6 functionality I've tested. I hope it's not a harbinger of things to come, and that the log below will help the issue to get fixed in the first service pack. Thank you.

EDIT - I posted before discovering that the sp1 is out. Downloaded ok, but fails with a msg that my software does not need to be upgraded. Presumably this is because my download purchase already had the patch applied. Could someone please confirm that the version number for X6x64 after application of SP1 is 16.1.0.48x64.

Above issue persists.

Thanks, Ron

Ron:

There are periodic threads about X6 crashes - here is one you may check out: http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php?f=56&t=51697. If you do not have the same problem try going through the PSPX6 bugs and Fixes thread and searching through the posts for discussions of X6 crashes.

Iata, understood, thanks.

MarkZ, thanks, yes, I'd skimmed them. It does sound like the issue I report above may be related. So far I've found only a few jpg files for which the crash occurs (reproducibly). I've examined their EXIF data (as reported by PSP6), but so far find nothing that distinguishes them from the files that cause no issue. None of my files has IPTC data. Rather than spend a lot of time tracking down this bug, I was kinda hoping PSP programmers would pick up on the crash log I posted or at least advise me as to what additional log or trace they could use to fix this in SP2. It's a relatively minor inconvenience, just disconcerting to find a bug in the very first feature to be explored in my upgrade.

Unfortunately, Corel employees rarely if ever visit this forum. At most, they may review the Wish List item at the top of the forum around the time they start developing the next version. If you look at the top of the forum, you will see it is a user to user forum. Though we use the Corel servers, none of us here is a Corel employee. We are just users like you who volunteer their time to try to help other users.
